Map Leftovers

Chibi-Robo-PIA-doorroom dokan.png

doorroom_dokan.dat is a model of a metal pipe. Since doorroom.dat is the model for the eyes and platform in the Chibi-Doors, it's likely this model had something to do with Chibi-Doors.

Some cleanse their souls by giving up Moolah. Conmen cleanse their souls in fire.

fx_kitchenburner.dat is an object for particle effects for a gas burner's fire. It is located directly under where Peekoe trains on the stove, but is never set to spawn or animate. It has five animations: nothing (standard for Chibi-Robo particle objects), a small gas fire, a bigger gas fire, smoke, and a massive fire that would engulf Peekoe. There are unused sound effects that appear to correspond to Peekoe being burned with fire.

Chibi-Robo-PIA-conro2.png
Chibi-Robo-PIA-conro3.png

kitchen/conro.dat no longer seems to have a model, but does still have textures. Based on other cut assets and the names of the other stove-related models having "gas" in the name, it was probably a model for gas burners. It is actually in the kitchen right where it would logically be on the stove, but it is not set to spawn (and would not be visible even it it were.) denkiconro.dat, the model for the electric burners used in the final game, is one of the last objects in the kitchen's object list. This, along with the fact that fx_kitchenburner and conro seem to be hastily removed, imply a late replacement of the gas burners in favor of electric ones.

All the best chairs have foot-stashing holes.

npc/sun_dai.dat is Peekoe's chair as seen in stage15. The symbol on the back of the chair cannot be seen clearly, as it is absent when Peekoe is not covering it.

Lost Objects

I don't get today's music.

Item/block.dat and Item/record_ff.dat are both gray cubes. record_giccio.dat is the Drake Redcrest record requested by Funky Phil, and files with "ff" refer to Funky Phil, so record_ff.dat may have been planned to be another record for him.

Chibi-Robo-PIA-cos obake.png

Item/cos_obake.dat is a model of a flattened ghost suit. The model bulges upwards a bit in the center. The ghost suit is never seen in this state. It is located in the Living Room on the ground in front of the shelf where Peekoe was earlier in development, but is never set to spawn. If picked up, the player will obtain the Ghost Suit.

Chibi-Robo-PIA-ink.png

Item/ink.dat is a bottle of ink most likely intended for Sophie's sidequest.

Grungy Dirt

Dirt stains in Chibi-Robo! are prefixed with yogore_ and are located in the all/ directory, except for the basement dirt stains, as noted below. Each stain has a set of animations that set the stain to one stage of being cleaned. The toothbrush simply increments this stage until the stain appears to have disappeared (a.k.a. either faded away or shrunken to an microscopic scale), at which point the stain fully disappears and rewards are given. Listed with the stain are the amount of animations it has, which is equivalent to how quickly it takes to clean one of these stains with the toothbrush.

Chibi-Robo-PIA-yogore 30k.png

all/yogore_30k is an unused black stain, resembling oil/black paint of some sort. It has 32 animations and shrinks when being cleaned.

Chibi-Robo-PIA-yogore 50k.png

all/yogore_50k is an unused blue stain in a similar style to the above stain, resembling really gloopy water (or maybe just blue paint?). It has a whopping 52 animations and shrinks when being cleaned.

Chibi-Robo-PIA-yogore toy.png

all/yogore_toy is an unused dirt stain. Based on the shape and name, it might've been meant to be feet tracks left by Dinah. It has 21 animations and shrinks when being cleaned, but it shifts a bit as it shrinks.

Plants?

There are three tree models corresponding to the three currency types used in Chibi-Robo: moolah, happy points, and scrap. It seems you might've been able to grow your own currency at some point. They might've been scrapped because they contradicted some of the game's themes.

The real reason money doesn't grow on trees is because it was cut during development.

all/coin_tree is a golden tree, corresponding to Moolah. Since the family's in poverty during the main storyline of Chibi-Robo, it might've been a bit jarring. Also, wouldn't this be illegal, and cause economic inflation too?

Chibi-Robo-PIA-happy tree.png

all/happy_tree is an untextured pink tree, corresponding to Happy Points. Growing your own Happy Points goes against the themes of the game - are they really "happy" points if they didn't come from the happiness of somebody? - so it's pretty clear why this was cut.

Chibi-Robo-PIA-junk tree.png

all/junk_tree is a metallic tree, corresponding to Scrap. This might've been cut for posterity reasons after the other two trees were cut, or that it'd become another Moolah tree after all the Utilibots are brought. Maybe it's because farming your own iron allows you not to rid the Spydorz menace, and, in the long term, add more waste metal to the planet's surface.

I hear if you climb it, you'll find a Giga-Human.

all/mame_tree There's also this beanstalk-looking object. It also has the same suffix for the above tree objects and is located in the same folder but doesn't seem to be a tree at all. Perhaps you were meant to be able to grow a beanstalk as a shortcut to the roof of the house at some point?

Other Stuff

A little friend in a hurry!

sample.dat is a cut character, resembling a robot like Chibi. They share elements with early designs of Telly Vision (rounded shape, large question mark over head) seen in the Happy Book's concept art. Judging from the name, and only having an animation for walking (not even standing still), this was most likely a test model. While it shares a name with the unused song sample.hps, this is probably because they are both test files, however a connection is possible.

Chibi-Robo-PIA-exclamation.gif

exclamation.dat is a model of an exclamation point resembling Chibi-Robo. Possibly an early version of the ! prompt for interacting with objects.

Chibi-Robo-PIA-energyb.gif

energyb.dat is a green floating energy ball with the Yin-Yang symbol rotating in the center that is hovering in a figure-eight pattern. The Yin-Yang symbol billboards so it always faces the camera. It spawns in the ahk debug room and when "collected" by being walked into by Chibi-Robo, spawns an effect consisting of three green pillars and recharges him with ten extra watts. There are three of these objects in the Living Room, but they are never set to spawn. A similar hovering round green object that also recharged the player's battery in the same manner was later used in Okaeri! Chibi-Robo! Happy Richie Ōsōji!, so it's possible this thing was cut and repurposed for that game.

A duplicate model exists under test/dust0.dat. (test/dust1.dat is the model for the black stains on the ground floor of the Basement that can be cleaned up fairly quickly with the Toothbrush.)

Since the sound that plays when energyb is touched is called "system_energy_ball", energyb.dat's internal name is most likely shorthand for "energy ball", and would not mean that there was once a file named energya.dat.

Telly Items

Telly holds many props throughout his sidequest, as visible in the Foyer, Jenny's Room, and in one case, the Bedroom. However, all of his props, including many unused ones, can be seen in the distance out of bounds in the Chibi-House with the use of a Japanese debug room. However, they cannot be seen clearly.

Chibi-Robo-PIA-tonpy item a.png

tonpy_item_a is a small envelope.

Chibi-Robo-PIA-tonpy item b.png

tonpy_item_b is an unused trophy in the shape of a microphone. In the final game, Telly holds a trophy using the same model as a prop in Peekoe's basement area.

tonpy_item_d does not exist, used or unused.

Either a glowing review, or a self-serving autobiography.

tonpy_item_e is a book evidently titled Best Song.

Chibi-Robo-PIA-tonpy item f.png

tonpy_item_f is a golden record.

He won first and second place. Impressive!

tonpy_item_h is an unused silver trophy. It can be seen in the ground inside of other items in the debug room, shun.

Chibi-Robo-PIA-tonpy item j.png

tonpy_item_j, tonpy_item_k, tonpy_item_r, and tonpy_item_s are all the same envelope with a sticker of Telly on it.

Breaking News: Most Teriyaki Blues props cut from the game!

tonpy_item_l appears to be a newspaper.

Chibi-Robo-PIA-tonpy item m.png

tonpy_item_m appears to be a flyer. It uses the same texture as the record that Telly holds in the final game.

Chibi-Robo-PIA-tonpy item n.png

tonpy_item_n and tonpy_item_q are a photograph of Telly in his "tuxedo".

Chibi-Robo-PIA-tonpy item o.png

tonpy_item_o is a flag with the text TONPY on it.

Just how many awards did this robot win?!

tonpy_item_u is another unused trophy design.

Filesystem Oddities

The game's internal filesystem for models has different folders for models used in specific places. Some of the models are placed in weird locations or named weirdly that pulls some things about development into question.

test0

As noted above, the model for the black stains on the floor of the Basement is internally called dust1.dat and is located in /test, the folder for all debug room related objects, and dust0.dat is a duplicate of the also-unused energy ball model.
It's unknown why this is the case, if there is even a reason, since the other dirt stains found on the ground and walls are found in the all/ directory.

Suitcase in the Basement

The model for the suitcase that contains Giga Robo's left leg is named obj_b.dat and is found in the souko/ directory, which usually stores all models used in the basement. The suitcase is instead found in the bedroom in the final game.

In addition, there is a spider web model usually seen in the backyard called spider_su_b.dat which makes sense, given that there was planned to be a scrapped Spydorz fight in the basement.

Chibi Doors

Chibi Doors are an odd bunch, because their models are scattered all across the filesystem.
Firstly, the model for the eyes seen in the Chibi Door dimension is named doorroom.dat and is found at the base of the filesystem, along with an unused pipe model as mentioned above.
Secondly, the model for Chibi Doors themselves are instead found in /house_r. This folder also contains models used for the various Utilibots, which may imply that the Chibi Door was meant to be buildable at some point, though what would it had done is unknown.
Thirdly, perhaps the most interesting fact of all, is that the weird metallic background seen in in the Chibi Door dimension is named dream1.dat and is located in /house_r as well too. There are no other "dream" models, just this one, despite what the name may imply.
In-game, Chibi Robo never dreams (er, he downloads from a memory bank) but he does in the intro of Okaeri! Chibi-Robo! Happy Richie Ōsōj.
