DJMax Trilogy is a rhythm action game that was sold with a USB security dongle, required to run the game. The game wasn't cracked until February 2012, months after the online service was shut down. The first tool able to decrypt the game's files was made in early 2014 by shadosoft.

The UI and animation file format (.str / .vce files), comes from the rhythm game "EZ2DJ" . And interestingly, it's also used in Ragnarok Online. This format causes some lag in some of its background videos.[1]

Miscellaneous tidbits that are interesting enough to point out here.
Notes

Unused Music

There are four unused songs for this game, three of which are sped up versions (called Megatonic Mixes) of existing or non included older songs. In the final version, there are only two Megatonic Mixes. There are instructions on how to play these songs here.

Carmen Toreador

DJMax Trilogy CarmenToreador.png

The most interesting of the four, as it is the same old song from DJMax Online, but with a new, never released BGA. For some reason, the song did not made it into the final product (probably the BGA was too weak).

End of the Moonlight Megatonic Mix

The same song, but faster.

NB Ranger Megatonic Mix

The same song, but faster.

Yo Max Megatonic Mix

Another Megatonic Mix with Yo Max, which is a DJMax series' theme song. Interestingly, its BGA has some new visuals from new songs from DJMax Trilogy, but it remains almost identical.

Unused Images

Hidden Snoopy

size:300px
A snoopy-like character is off camera in the background video for the song "Yellowberry".

Other Unused Media Files

From what's left unused inside the pak files, it seems that in early development they've used text to speech instead of JC's voice. Also there's a beta main menu background video, and loads of audio from DJMax Portable 2's menus, including all of the background music and announcer voice clips.

Found inside a media folder, it seems developers planned to include two more developer videos, as these thumbnails may indicate:

In the UI folder, there're many unused images of the song selector:

Hidden Developer's Comment

Some of the script files contain a line from a developer simply saying not to view or alter the game's files. The text "don't touch me! plz" is in the header of many pak files.

Anti-Piracy Features

A USB security dongle was bundled with the game which not only is required to play the game, but stores user profiles and part of the game progress. (e.g. song scores are just saved in the user folder). The dongle was planned to be sold separately, but the development team disbanded before it did, so the only way to obtain the dongle is to buy a copy of the game.

Trying to run the game without a dongle and/or a crack will result in the following message:
