In Parasite Eve, Square tries their hand at survival horror, mixing the horrors of being dragged off to the opera with the terror of the Chrysler Building, which is inexplicably a roguelike.

Unused Text There's surprisingly a lot of unused text in Parasite Eve. This page also covers the unused items. |
Debug Room
There is a debug room! Yes, there is.
Throw the following codes into your GameShark:
D009D0F0 0003 8009D280 6048 D009D0F0 0003 3009D282 0006
Then, while in-game, hit L2 and R2 at the same time to be whisked away to a black room full of talkative boxes. Yeah, nothing fun like Masato Kato's room, it's all business here.

Regional Differences
Japan | North America |
---|---|
Compared to the English version, the Japanese title screen has a brighter smoke effect, ring and font, thinner font, halo is angled slightly more vertical and the katakana title of the game is displayed.
Japan | North America |
---|---|
The background the Japanese tutorial appears to be based off a official semi-nude sketch of Aya, while the North American version of Aya is covered up.
Japan | North America |
---|---|
Tutorial #2 (Icons) use different backgrounds.
Japan | North America |
---|---|
Tutorial #5 (Tools & Mods) use different backgrounds. The Japanese one is a recycle of the image used in Tutorial #2.

North America |
For naming Aya, your custom armor and your custom weapon, the Japanese version offers hiragana and katakana characters in addition to what the English version offers, plus the menu buttons that allow players to switch between the lists, but limits the character count to 6. Curiously, the Japanese default name is "Aya" in English, while everyone else's names (Save for Maya and Eve) are written in Japanese.
Day Screens
All the day screens are similar between the Japanese and English versions, except for the placement of the English word and kanji in the bottom corner of the Japanese one.
