Proto:Gran Turismo 5/GT5 UK 1609 build
This is a sub-page of Proto:Gran Turismo 5.
This article has just been started and needs the article basics added. Help us out and add them.
This article is a work in progress. ...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes. Notes: This article is currently very bare bones: especially in comparison to the absolutely vast amount of changes compared to the release version! If a category ends up with too much (this is almost guaranteed, let's be honest): remember to split it to a subpage.
This page or section needs more images. There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this. Specifically: Everything. Also comparison images from release GT5 and maybe GT5 Demo 2010. Please use images taken on real hardware for anything other than flat 2D menus: emulated images might have issues that aren't due to the build itself.
On April 24, 2021 Paiky (also known as GT Archive) received a disc purchased a week before on eBay with the cost also partially covered by Dezent, a totally not suspicious white disc simply marked "GT5 UK 1609 build", being sold as a "HOLY GRAIL ULTRA RARE PS3 GT5 BUILD DISC". However, any suspicions of illegitimacy were gone as soon as images on the disc revealed a placeholder Polyphony Digital game icon and preview image.
The executable has a compile date/time of 2010/09/16 01:08:49, 2 months and 8 days before the official release of the game, and a version string of "gt.gt5.uk.ps3.product-bd-weak.release.qa". And yet, this UK QA build contains an extreme amount of unfinished content and changes in comparison to the final release build.
As this is a QA build, all QA features mentioned in the main article are enabled with no modification required.
Cars
To do: Missing cars, missing thumbnails, changed cars, paint oddities.
- "Polyphony Digital" appear as a manufacturer: this was changed to "Gran Turismo" in the release version.
- Their manufacturer name shown above a car's name is "Concept by GT".
- The manufacturer "Grand Touring Garage" appear in the dealership as "gtg".
- They have no manufacturer name: nothing appears above the car's name.
- Some cars do not render their interior in the garage/dealership. These are noted as having "interior bug".
- All NASCAR cars have the Coors Light Pole Award sticker intact; these would be blurred out in the final due to international alcohol advertising laws.
Polyphony Digital X1 (fan)
One of the most immediately noticeable differences with what would become the Red Bull X1 (the X2010 name was not used until Version 1.05) is the lack of Red Bull branding and no logos on the tire covers.
Mitsubishi i-MiEV '09
The license plate of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV '09 is a blank yellow plate (matching a Japanese private kei car plate: perhaps an indication that the scanned car was registered). The color chips are all single-color: they do not differentiate between the plain and two-tone w/ decal choices. The car's interior also appears to have rendering issues.

Citroën GT by Citroën Concept '08
All colors that are usually limited to the Citroën GT by Citroën Road Car variant, the Standard version that can be imported from Gran Turismo PSP and this car in Gran Turismo 5: Prologue are available. In release, only White can be selected. The car also costs half as much as in release.

Other price changes
Some cars are unpurchasable in this build, but were in release. Other cars cost just 1 Credit, and others simply had their price changed for balancing or to correct a typo.
The following cars can be found in the dealership in the release version:

Courses
To do: Missing courses, missing thumbnails, changed courses.
"matterhorn" (Matterhorn Dirt)
An extremely unfinished version of the Matterhorn dirt course (not to be confused with the road course appearing in GT6) exists in this build, along with 3 other layouts named "matterhorn_A", "matterhorn_B" and "matterhorn_C". The main layout features two never-seen before thumbnails, showing a barebones track on a low-resolution mountain. The track will load, but there's no way to drive on it due to the missing .ad file, unless using the RACE_EDIT Mode, or a free camera function.
The alternate layouts, on other hand, do not have any files on the build at all, causing a soft-lock every time the game attempts to load them.
GT Mode
Dealerships
- All the manufacturers are visible on a single screen. Tuners and non-production manufacturers are not set to appear at the end of the list, so they're mixed in with the rest.
- When in a dealership, the smoky background used for the Garage in release is reused. Specifications are shown on the right, also like that Garage. However, the car is centered in shot, whereas in both the release Garage and this build's Garage have the car off-center so that the specs don't go over the top of it.
Events
To do: Information on event races that are different to the unused ones in release.
Some (but not all) of the unused event races that were left in the files but made inaccessible in release appear in this build. These are:
- Civic Race
- Lightweight K Cup II (as a Beginner event instead of Amateur)
- Japanese Compact Cup (as a Beginner event instead of Amateur)
- 1,000 Miles!
- 24 Hours of Le Mans II
- 4 Hours of Daytona
Garage
- The previously mentioned smoky background isn't here in this version: instead, a background supposedly showing two lights on the selected car is used.
Tuning
- The Tuning Shop Menu is extremely barebones in this build, as it has placeholder buttons for each category in a scrolling horizontal line.
- All categories have a completely different layout to release: some clearly placeholder.
- Some tuning parts that were removed can be purchased:
- Improved Accelerator Response Intake System part
- Catalytic Converter: Racing Exhaust part
- Clutch: Triple-Plate Drivetrain part
- Flywheel: Racing Drivetrain part
- All 4 Brakes parts:
- Large Diameter Rotors + 4 Piston Calipers
- Large Diameter Rotors + 6 Piston Calipers
- Large Diameter Rotors + 8 Piston Calipers
- Carbon Ceramic Brakes
- The Type C and Type V tires have their own categories.
- No Super Soft tires can be purchased, however.
- A Special Tires category also exists, containing Racing: Intermediate, Racing: Full Wet, Dirt and Snow tires. This means that Intermediate and Wet tires do not come free with Racing tires.
- More than one part at a time can be purchased from the Tuning Shop.
- The UI is not automatically refreshed after purchasing an item: remaining credits are only updated once you move the cursor.
- Parts cannot be fitted on purchase in the Tuning Shop.
- The Tuning menu is unfinished and will crash when selecting a category. Therefore, parts can only be fitted from the Items menu.
- The Items menu does not indicate whether a car can actually equip an item.
- The Honda CIVIC TYPE R (EK) '97 (Premium) is the only car that can equip the following parts:
- Sports Air Filter Intake System part
- Racing Air Filter Intake System part
- Intake Manifold Intake System part
- Catalytic Converter: Sports Exhaust part
- Catalytic Converter: Racing Exhaust part
- Exhaust Manifold Exhaust part
- No car can equip the Improved Accelerator Response Intake System part.
- Tuning parts do not change the displayed specifications; however, the power/torque graph displayed in the Tuning menu is updated.
Graphics
To do: Any image differences that aren't immediately obvious.
Top Menu
The Top Menu uses the dark avatar icon that can be found in the placeholder Manual images that existed in release versions 1.03 and prior.
Options Menu
The Options Menu uses the same title and icons as seen in the placeholder Manual images.
GT Mode Menu
The GT Mode menu shows online features, but selecting them prompts to connect to PSN. In the release version this was changed so that online features were greyed out or removed when not online.
Driving Options
The driving options are in a different order, and contains options for Petrol Additives and NOS. These allow you to select whether to use these tuning items that you may have purchased. Note that the settings will have no effect on gameplay: they have not been implemented (and seemingly never were).
While Super Soft tires do not appear in the Tuning menu, they can be selected in Driving Options.
Missing Localization
To do: Many more strings that aren't yet listed here.
A number of strings have yet to be localized in the build:
| Unlocalized string | Final English string |
