Something tells me that Insomniac knew that people would hack, which would explain why those lives appear in the unreachable areas. ExtremeSpyro 15:08, 4 November 2012 (EST)

That's generally not the case. The areas are almost certainly unreachable because the original method of accessing them was either removed or never implemented due to time or other restrictions, not because they wanted to give hackers something fun to look for (the extreme copy protection measures are proof enough that they didn't want people hacking the game). --BMF54123 17:08, 4 November 2012 (EST)

Poking around youtube led me to find something interesting, a full beta walkthrough: [1]. looks to be some interesting differences. I'm not going to attempt convincing the owner to spread the beta however, I don't have the internet fame to have a leg to stand on. Just thought I'd point your attention to it. Teraunce 18:59, 20 March 2013 (EDT)

Replying to an old comment for future reference - this playthrough is of a June 1998 version of Spyro the Dragon, not Spyro 3. The owner has stated on a number of occasions that they aren't going to release this version. --Hwd45 (talk) 19:30, 14 December 2019 (GMT)

Are there ways to force trigger the anti piracy protection? --Hellfire2345 18:26, 22 January 2014 (EST)

Platinum Version

Hi all! I have the Platinum version and have just reached Midnight Mountain. I thought I could offer some verification on what the Platinum version does and does not contain.

  • No music changes as far as I can tell as yet. I've yet to enter the Midnight Mountain levels but all Speedways use the same music and Evening Lake and Sunrise Spring share a theme.
  • Spike is Born is played at the correct time
  • I'm not sure whether the bug fixes are present. I didn't want to risk the Speedway glitch and I'm not sure if the Fireworks Factory glitch was fixed or just didn't occur for me as I probably wasn't on the easiest difficulty. If I ever get a spare memory card, I'd be happy to try the Speedway glitch.
  • I've encountered a few cases, especially in Evening Lake when Bianca meets you and Frozen Altars, where the sound cuts or skips, or gets stuck like a record. In the Scorch fight, Bentley's audio was also absent. This could just be my disk, but may be a glitch with the Platinum version as I never encountered these on my original release.

As I continue through the game I'll update any further changes I notice. -Stars (talk) 17:56, 6 November 2014 (EST)

I have the original non-platinum european version, and I can confirm the speedways glitch isn't present. -johnny32 (talk) 22:49, 24 January 2016 (CET)

Winter Jampack Demo

While the earliest demo (the Crash Bash and Spyro 3 demo) of the game has already been documented, two versions remain - the 'late' demo, hidden within Crash Bash (which looks to be mostly identical to the final game with a limited number of differences) and the Playstation Underground Jampack Winter 2000 demo, which I'm about to explore. While looking through the text files it appears that the demo was built after the game's development as many of the text phrases from the final game appear, with the unused lines of text also appearing. The beta level names like "dry gulch" do not appear. Strangely one piece of text appears among the level homeworlds that I'm unsure exists in the final version of the game, which I currently do not have a ROM for, hence why I'd like confirmation; the text says "Super Bogus Worlds"... a typo? An in-joke? Not really sure. I'll look out for any other weird text strings. --Hwd45 (talk) 17:37, 15 May 2015 (GMT)

Unused Gem in Cloud Spires

It seems it isn't present in all versions. --Crocodile91 (talk) 04:55, 18 November 2015 (EST)

Replying to an old comment for future reference - this gem is not something that changed between versions; rather, this is a glitch in the difficulty system. On lower difficulties, one of the Rhynocs in the level will disappear and its gem is (presumably unintentionally) placed here instead. However, in practice, when approaching the starting area of the level something causes the gem to teleport to the ground beneath Spyro's feet, so if he's walking when this happens it seems like he suddenly collects a gem out of nowhere. --Hwd45 (talk) 19:30, 14 December 2019 (GMT)

Unused enemy model

http://crystalfissured.tumblr.com/post/118768030613/this-appears-to-be-mr-fistus-from-the-spyro-2 I figured I should post it here as it doesn't seem to be known yet.

--FrenchOrange (talk) 23:52, 1 September 2018 (EDT)

Ahh, I keep forgetting to put this on the page. It's a really weird quirk and it's really quite unknown. Go ahead and add it to the main page if you want! Probably also worth noting that it's referenced in one of the Ratchet and Clank games too, I think. I think it's called "Mr Fist" in those games though so I guess it was only called "Fistus" to fit with the sort of Latin-sounding naming scheme. --Hwd45 (talk) 22:55, 1 September 2018 (BST)
It isn't unused, it's in the cutscene. Devann (talk) 01:06, 2 September 2018 (EDT)
Actually yeah, that's a good point - does this kind of thing still have a place here if it's not unused but intended as an Easter Egg? --Hwd45 (talk) 06:23, 2 September 2018 (BST)
This is debatable seeing how the model is untextured, yet he does seem to have an animation for looking up, so maybe the devs intending him to be part of the cutscene but decided against it in a later stage of development. --FrenchOrange (talk) 19:28, 2 September 2018 (EDT)

Piracy protection removed in NTSC GH version?

Supposedly all of the anti-piracy measures have been removed in the Greatest Hits version (and probably PAL Platinum as well), anyone able to confirm this?

Also just out of curiosity, why has the remark I had made about the Spooky Swamp gem glitch been edited out? Asdfsfs (talk) 02:55, 27 November 2019 (EST)

Can't confirm or deny the anti-piracy claim - it would require an improperly cracked Rev 01 version to know for sure. As I recall, Zoe's voice clip is in all four versions of the game, so even if the anti-piracy was removed, presumably artefacts of it remain. As for the Spooky Swamp note, as per the commented out section beneath:
If it's not known whether or not this glitch was fixed, why is it here?
If we don't have any information about whether the glitch was fixed or not in any other versions of the game then why would it be on the page? --Hwd45 (talk) 09:20, 27 November 2019 (GMT)
I somehow doubt that the protection would be removed later as the game is updated, especially if there's a REV01 Black Label (quick fix just after the release, like in PAL), which would also be the GH one in that case, just with another packaging. I presume that all revisions are modchip protected (mods on me PS1's won't trigger anything in this case, cool) and crack/modification protected. --PSXDRIVERPLAYER OUT. (talk) 09:41, 27 November 2019 (EST)
Oof, I found this string of text that seems to imply that at least both PAL revisions have those features, but PAL REV01 as people call it here seems to have a twist to it: "PAL Platinum Version does not reset your progress, Now you can beat Sorceress's Lair." Source: [[2]]. Dunno if this claim is legit though and it annoys me that they talk about Platinum instead of "AN UPDATED COPY". Edit after some previewing, oh man there's this as well: "Non-Greatest Hits have included Anti Piracy, which it's hacked by Paradox." - seemingly implying that stuff was removed in NTSC/U REV01. Dunno if that claim is true, especially since bad grammer und all. --PSXDRIVERPLAYER OUT. (talk) 03:58, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
Oh wow, that wiki sure does like to copy everything off TCRF without credit, huh. Even down to stealing images and putting their own edits on the images to make them look like they're original. Hmm. It'll definitely be something worth investigating, by triggering the antipiracy in each version and testing the effects. --Hwd45 (talk) 15:27, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
There's a couple of those pages where they actually say that "info taken from here" but not that one, while being one of those pages that I noticed has a lot of same stuff as here. Anti-piracy would be nice to activate, if only I'd know how. Also triggering a modchip protection on an emulator would be nice to do as well. Also RE: save data wipe - I'd imagine that would be easily prevented by taking the Memory Card off, since at that one certain loading screen, I'd imagine it just (over)writes the data of an empty file to it. --PSXDRIVERPLAYER OUT. Japanese version

There was apparently a Japanese version going to be made, but the Japanese localizer got out of business, as i have read somewhere that someone emailed Insomniac Games. But i can't access the site. Does anyone know if there are unused Japanese artworks? --FanOfYoshi (talk) 12:22, 14 December 2019 (EST)

This is entirely false, and was proven to be a myth many years ago. No Japanese version was ever in development. --Hwd45 (talk) 17:25, 14 December 2019 (GMT)
Actually, let me give further context as to where this claim came from and why it's totally false. The claim originated on a DarkSpyro thread featuring some astonishingly bad images and a now-deleted video. As someone that saw the video when it released, let me just say... it was not convincing in the slightest. Really poorly edited. The story behind how they found the information is also extremely shady and unconvincing. A thread on the now-defunct Assemblergames forum site (the linked site is an archived version of the site) goes into further detail about the signifiers proving this is a hoax - poor Japanese translations, timeline discrepancies and EXIF data on the supposed logo dating to sometime after 2011 - it's all a load of rubbish. While we're at it it's also worth noting that there have been a number of other Spyro prerelease hoaxes over the years - stay sceptical folks --Hwd45 (talk) 18:56, 14 December 2019 (GMT)

Unused Sparx Ability?

Hey there! Some time ago I had found the value where it determines if Sparx can break baskets and vases for you and only recently had I wondered... "Why is this true/false value set to 2 and not 1?"

Setting the value at 0x0658F4 in the American 1.1 release to 1 showed me the answer: It allowed Sparx to break baskets, but not vases. I recorded a video showing this discovery off. Has anyone found this before? If not, this should be added to the page, right? Kayya (talk) 03:15, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

I previously demonstrated this in a video but seem to have forgotten to add it to the page. --Hwd45 (talk) 06:24, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
I see! Looks like we had the same thought then, though I didn't know that the Atlas warp checks that value to be 2 specifically and not 1. Makes me wonder if the progression of abilities was long range > extra health > Sparx breaks baskets > Sparx breaks vases + Atlas warp? Ah well, that's just speculation. Glad to at least have rediscovered this unused feature so it can finally be added to the page. Kayya (talk) 07:10, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
