SOMETIMES I SEE A TEXT BOX AND I JUST CAN'T HELP MYSSDFGFFDHFGDJGGFSHGDFH
This page sucks.
If you could make it suck less, that would be awesome.
Hmmm...
To do:
  • Needs images badly.
  • The later Ubisoft-released version has some changes, mostly in-game advertisements.
  • More info on the cut missions.

Driv3r (pronounced Driver 3) is the third entry in the Driver series. It introduced bikes, swimming, boats, guns and the rather famous Timmy Vermicelli. The game itself, however was considered the worst game in the series mainly because of the number of bugs in it.

Unused Videos

Car selection screen videos can be found for all cop cars and police boats in the game files. This suggests they were selectable for Take-A-Ride.

Unused Missions

In the Japanese version's files, several unused missions can be found:

Abduction

Cut from the Istanbul section of the game, Abduction would have been between "Another lead" and "Alleyway", this mission would have been set in the normally unused Nightclub location, which has a full destructible interior intended for this mission, parts of this mission's cutscene were re-used in the main story.

After arresting Lomaz, Hitmen would have shown up, after fighting their way out of the Nightclub, Tanner (With an unknown cut NPC listed only as "DJ" in the game files riding shotgun.) would have had to protect Jones as he drove Lomaz to the docks, this mission is currently unfinishable as intended, as the DJ doesn't spawn in the car, so the player is unable to destroy the cars fast enough unless they get stuck due to AI as they can only ram them instead of shooting them.

There was also a cut playable Lomaz section but little is known about it. (Several missions have cut playable Lomaz sections but Lomaz is never played in the final game.)

Arms Deal

While Arms Deal is a mission in the final game, originally the player would have had the option to play a different second half of the mission as Lomaz.

The player would take a different route through the mall, then be attacked, after fighting your way back out of the mall, the player would then have to make their way back to the safe house avoiding Gang Cars.

This mission also hints that the Tanner secton of Arms Deal present in the final mission was originally different, in the final game you drive the truck to a location that later turns out to be the safehouse of an enemy gang boss, Fabienne , however in this unused section, you drive further to Carlita's Yard, a Safehouse, and find the Truck with an explosives crate in the back that Tanner drives in this mission parked there.

This was likely changed since the safehouse is further away from where the player starts with the Explosives Truck.

Roadblocks

A cut Nice mission, this would have also had a choice of character, as the player could play either as "Bad Hand" or Tanner. As Tanner, the player would have had to help trucks filled with stolen cars escape the cops via clearing Police Roadblocks, the player would then have to get in a car from one of the crashed trucks and drive it to safety under police pursuit to the Airport Safehouse. (Whenever this entailed the player getting out and shooting the cops or simply creating an opening via ramming the roadblocks is unknown.)

If you played as "Bad Hand" you would have to protect a specific truck as it drove away, whenever this would have just consisted of ramming or if "Bad Hand" was intended to have a gunner in the passenger seat is unknown.

Numerous small pieces of cut content

Hmmm...
To do:
Find proof in the game files/code.

According to an old developer's portfolio website, living cats were cut from the game, a stuffed cat can still be found in the hidden Armory in Miami, there are also numerous stuffed animals in other locations, how many of these were also intended to appear as NPCs in Driv3r is unknown.

Originally there was a dedicated Bike Hijack animation, instead of Tanner getting on the bike with the driver just getting off in the final game, Tanner would have shoved the Driver off the bike then got on it.

Calita had a different appearance with a red jacket and a different face and hair.

Version Differences

  • The PC version has a cut mission "The Hit" restored in it.
  • The Xbox version allows for custom soundtracks, but there is no way to freely change tracks during gameplay.
  • In the Xbox versions, several missions, namely "Surveillance", "Another Lead", "Alleyway", "The Chase", and "Chase the Train" use different character models for the enemies.

Regional Differences

The European/Australian PS2 version contains a demo for Transformers, another game Atari published around the same time. The demo and its corresponding menu option were not included in the US or Japanese versions.

Driving Games

There isn't too much about to say about the Driving Games in Driv3r.

Gate Race

Miami Gate Race sky was different, if you modify a specific mood file in the folder Moods from the game folder you can "restore" it. Besides Miami Gate Race other cities also have a few differences like Nice Gate Race.

Trail Blazer

Trail Blazer instead of having red cones it had yellow cones which you could damage them by hitting it.

Nice Survival

Nice Survival driving game had a different spawnpoint, car and sky, You still can see it in the PS2 version in the Driving Games menu.

Unused Vehicles

Careful, you'll lose an eye.
This page or section needs more images.
There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.

Each city was meant to have a police boat. However, they were removed but Istanbul's police boat was used in a single mission which doesn't move upon entry.

Executable Text

Hidden in the PS2 version's executable file are several comments mostly pertaining to errors the programmers had, mainly due to the rushed production the game had.
