Die Hard Arcade, developed by Sega's Japanese and American branches, began as an original Die Hard-inspired 2.5D beat-em-up which would eventually be released in Japan as Dynamite Deka. However, quite late into its development, Sega was granted official use of the Die Hard license from Fox Interactive, and it was released internationally with some edits to turn it into a Die Hard game.

Regional Differences

Subtitles

Both Dynamite Deka and Die Hard Arcade feature voice acting in English. Dynamite Deka includes subtitles in Japanese for all cutscenes, while Die Hard Arcade only includes English subtitles for the attract mode opening sequence to account for attract mode sound being turned off by the operator.

Building

The building where Dynamite Deka takes place is an original design, while the building in Die Hard Arcade is Nakatomi Plaza as portrayed in Die Hard by the real-life Fox Plaza. The player's path through the building and the stage design are identical between versions despite the different shapes of both buildings; the fourth stage, for example, includes fights on top of and inside a skywalk present on the double-towered Dynamite Deka building but not on the single-towered Nakatomi Plaza.

Violence Mode

By default, Dynamite Deka displays blood splatter effects when characters are struck with certain attacks such as kicks, gunshots or slashes, whereas Die Hard Arcade does not. Both versions allow the operator to change this in the game settings by toggling "Violence Mode" on or off in the Game Assignments menu.

Floor designs

The first, third and fifth stages include rooms with floors that are decorated differently in both versions. In Dynamite Deka, these rooms have a checkerboard pattern, a tiled floor and a plain floor respectively; whereas in Die Hard Arcade, all three feature the distinctive "samurai helmet" logo of Die Hard's Nakatomi Corporation.
