This page details one or more prototype versions of Where's My Perry?.

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Differences between this version and 1.0.1 (the first released version).
  • Unused levels. Levels that are in the game files, but are not playable in-game.
  • Unused assets
  • Early music
  • Compare First Boil to the version used in the free version
  • Other differences such as menu and Story differences.

A prototype of Where's My Perry? was found on the iOS App Store by downgrading the app with the version id 8149240 with the version name 0.9 (although the App Store says 1.0.0, because apps have to start at 1.0.0 on the first upload, and it's the wrong version that they picked!). This version seems to be the one showcased at E3 2012[1], due to the similarities, and the level file E3_ice_waterfall. Since the final released version is very different from the first released version, all comparisons will be comparing the prototype and version 1.0.1, with a few exceptions, which will be noted as they occur.

Graphical Differences

  • The gnome icons were different.
  • The heatinator had different graphics.
    • The beam that the laser shoots is also different.
      • The same applies for the coolinator having a different beam.
  • Water, Sludge, Hot Sludge, Cold Sludge, Steam, Ice, Dirt, and Rock use different graphics/materials.
  • Water tubes and Taps uses different graphics.
  • The pad features a different design.
  • The app icon has a grey background instead of the final yellow background. The art of Perry also lacks shading.

Levels

Only 20 levels are accessible normally, but there exist 84 additional unused levels in the files (though some are alternate versions of the same levels). Most of the levels are unfinished versions of levels found in the final game. Their internal names indicate that they are earlier versions of the levels dated back to pre-0.9 builds of the game which had a different level order.

Used levels

These levels are directly accessible in the prototype, under the first (and only) level pack "An Agent I Can Trust".

Proto Final

Level name Water Powered (First Perry) Power to the Tube
Level number 1-1 1-1
File name 01_first_perry 01_power_to_the_tube

Originally named First Perry, and level number 01.

Proto Final
Screenshot WMP Proto 03 subtle puddle.png WMP Final 03 unification day.png
Level name Filling (Subtle Puddle) Unification Day
Level number 1-2 1-3
File name 03_subtle_puddle 03_unification_day

Originally the level was named "Subtle Puddle" and would be 03 instead of 02.

Proto Free
Screenshot WMP Proto 12 first boil.png WMP Free Boiling Point.png
Level name Ouch That's Hot! (First Boil) Boiling Point
Level number 1-3 1-6
File name 12_first_boil

This level was named "First Boil" and was initially level 12. This level became a level in the free version in which was called "Boiling Point"[2].

Proto Final
Screenshot WMP Proto 19 duckycomb.png WMP Final 15 pool party.png
Level name Honeycomb (Duckycomb) Pool Party
Level number 1-4 1-15
File name 19_duckycomb 15_pool_party

The level's file name (19_duckycomb) references ducks, implying that this level may have been designed for Where's My Water? initially before being repurposed for the spin-off. The level number was 19.

Proto Final
Screenshot WMP Proto 14 bad laser.png WMP Final 10 warning lasers convert water.png
Level name Too Hot To Touch (Bad Laser) Warning: Lasers Convert Water
Level number 1-5 1-10
File name 14_bad_laser 10_warning_lasers_convert_water

Originally Bad Laser, and level number 14.

Proto Final
Screenshot WMP Proto aim the steam.png WMP Final 14 steamed up.png

Level number 1-6 1-14
File name aim_the_steam 14_steamed_up

Proto Final
Screenshot WMP Proto 05 dont stop moving.png WMP Final 05 warning dont chill out.png
Level name Don't Stop Moving Warning: Don't Chill Out
Level number 1-8 2-5
File name 05_dont_stop_moving 05_warning_dont_chill_out

The water starts out touching the ice in the prototype, so it will start freezing immediately unless you dig. In the final, dirt was added to prevent this. The path to the goal and the dead end were also swapped. Was originally level number 05.

Proto Final
Screenshot WMP Proto 01 blue laser.png WMP Final 02 cold fusion.png
Level name Coolinator Debut (Blue Laser) Cold Fusion
Level number 1-9 2-2
File name 01_blue_laser 02_cold_fusion

Two stone barriers were added in the final to prevent the level from being cheesed. According to its internal name, the level number was 01 which implies it will start out at 2-1.

Proto (used) Proto (unused) Final
Screenshot WMP Proto E3 ice waterfall.png WMP Proto 04 ice waterfall.png WMP Final 04 frozen waterfall.png
Level name Ice Waterfall N/A Frozen Waterfall
Level number 1-10 N/A 2-4
File name E3_ice_waterfall 04_ice_waterfall 04_frozen_waterfall

The used version in the prototype has the bottom left filled in with stone and the heatinator placed above it at an angle. The unused version more closely matches the final version of the level, as it does not have the stone there and places the heatinator opposite the coolinator facing almost straight up. This level's file name also suggests that it was designed to be shown off at E3, likely making this prototype the one that was demoed at E3 2012, and Ice Waterfall was 04 instead of 1-10, which was in the process of finalizing the stage.

Proto
Screenshot WMP Proto 12 condenser ray.png
Level name Condenser Ray
Level number 1-11
File name 12_condenser_ray

Condenser ray was originally 12 but instead it's 1-11.

The hot sludge does not flow over the grates properly, preventing the level from working as intended.

Proto Final
Screenshot WMP Proto freedom reigns.png WMP Final 16 free the stream.png
Level name Freedom Reigns Freedom Reigns
Level number 1-18 4-16
File name freedom_reigns 16_free_the_stream

Strangely, the file name matches the level's name in the prototype but has an unrelated name in the final, despite the level name not actually changing.

Proto Final
Screenshot WMP Proto down up down.png WMP Final 16 down up down.png
Level name Down Up Down Down Up Down
Level number 1-19 3-16
File name down_up_down 16_down_up_down

Level number 1-20 4-11
File name tag_team 11_the_amazing_flying_sludge

Unused levels

These levels are not referenced in the game's database and therefore do not have confirmed level numbers or names. The following screenshots come from a modified version of the prototype with all levels made accessible, and as such, the level numbers seen in them are entirely arbitrary, and the level names are purely speculative based on the file names (though some do correspond to actual strings, but there's no guarantee that they would've been the one used).
