Unused Stuff
Is there anything unused here? Beside the word filter, which is used in the game itself, I'm not sure if there is anything to find. --From: divingkataetheweirdo (talk) 00:29, 17 April 2017 (EDT)
- Is there a reason why the word filter I added was removed? It's not observable at all (except by brute force) in regular gameplay, and similar filters are included in tons of other articles, e.g. Fallout#Language_Filter, Secret_of_Evermore#Name_Entry_Check_-_Potty_Mouth, RodLand_(NES)#Swear_Filter, Castle_Shikigami_2_(PlayStation_2)#High-Score_Name_Filter.3F, San_Francisco_Rush_2049_(Arcade)#Swear_Filter_Oddities, Slip_Stream_(Arcade)#Swear_Filter_Oddity, etc. --Habs (talk) 19:38, 17 April 2017 (EDT)
- At some point we updated our guidelines to not include profanity filters, because they're fairly common in newer games now. Our policy going forward is to not include them unless they cause some sort of notable effect in gameplay, are not actually used, or contain things one would not normally expect to find in a swear filter. Of the articles you listed, only Castle Shikigami 2's word list potentially qualifies for removal (depending on whether it's used or not). Fallout's is borderline, but will likely stay because it contains entries that don't actually appear in the final game's script. --BMF54123 (talk) 20:18, 17 April 2017 (EDT)
- As far as I know, it's the only example of a profanity filter in an NES game, which is why I made the page. I can understand in PC / online or arcade games where is common, but I think this is notable for existing in an NES game. If you can come up with any other NES titles with similar filters then I'd be happy to rest my case though. --Habs (talk) 22:58, 17 April 2017 (EDT)
- Besides Rod Land, there's also Pictionary, F-117A Stealth Fighter, and Demon Sword. That said, I'd like to know if there are any weird easter egg involving the word filter (i.e. entering every single entry on the filter). --From: divingkataetheweirdo (talk) 23:36, 17 April 2017 (EDT)
