The Sims (Windows)/Translation Notes

This is a sub-page of The Sims (Windows).

The Sims demonstrated remarkable localization aspirations, being translated into a total of 18 languages based on the default USEnglish sets of strings. This commitment to accessibility and global appeal was evident from the very first release. Recognizing the game's abundant pop culture references and internal staff shout-outs, the developers thoughtfully included comments within the strings of text to provide clarity and context for translators. This practice ensured that the humorous and often nuanced references would resonate with players around the world, regardless of cultural barriers.

Below is a comprehensive documentation of said translation notes. All of them have been preserved within the game's IFF database past the development builds, even though, needless to say, nothing in-game ever calls them.

NOTE: Support for Danish, Swedish and Norwegian languages were introduced in the Unleashed expansion.
