This page details one or more prototype versions of DiRT (Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360).

This cactus is UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.
Hmmm...
To do:
  • Try to find a way to extract this prototype's .nfs to possibly find more unused content.
  • Document cars using unlocked Rally World, see which ones crash the game, which ones are incomplete/complete.

Hiddenpalace.org logo.png  This prototype is documented on Hidden Palace.

An Xbox 360 preview build released as a part of Project Deluge on Christmas of 2022. The build is dated March 9th 2007, a month and 28 days before the final build.

Differences

General

  • The intro uses Codemasters' old logo, which plays at the start and at the end of the intro sequence.
  • The smooth transition from the game's logo to the main menu doesn't exist.
  • Every option except for Career and Rally World is inaccessible.
  • Inaccessible options in the main menu aren't greyed out.

Career

  • Career mode doesn't have an intro.
  • All events and cars are unlocked from the get-go.
  • Events cannot be entered.
  • Events are much more brutal with a lot more races inside them.
    • For example, the first race of Tier 2 has 7 races, which is more races than Champion of Champions, the last event in the game.
  • The prize money for winning events is much smaller.
  • Every event has a different thumbnail compared to the final game.
  • Vehicle names are shortened, like they are in the final game's statistics tab.

Rally World

Time Trials:

  • Colin McRae has the World Record on Italy and the United Kingdom, Travis Pastrana has one on Japan and Nobuhiro Tajima also has one on Pikes Peak.
  • Service area has Shakedown and Damage Repair greyed out and unselectable. The only selectable buttons are Race and Exit.

Single Race:

  • In service area, Damage Repair is greyed out and inaccessible

Debug

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Debug.xml talks about a devmenu, but doesn't say how to get access to it. Find a way to access it.

Inside of the prototype's files is a folder titled "debug." As the name says, it's for debugging. Mostly AI debugging. Aside from that, there's also:

Graphics

debug.xml

A vast .xml file containing multiple cheats and a multitude of ways to jailbreak the constraints of this build.

Unused Video

In the game files, specifically in the videos folder, there's a video called cmr_next_gen.bik. This video would've probably been an intro for the game before it was renamed to DiRT, considering the game's codename is cmr6.

Oddities

  • The game uses Colin McRae's name in the title screen, but uses the American/post-McRae version's narration.
  • Some things that Travis talks about aren't accessible in this prototype (like Championship mode, Track Information and Vehicle Setup) practically making some of the stuff he says useless.
  • Career events "Alpinestars Pikes Peak Hill Climb Unlimited" and "Alpinestars Pikes Peak Big Rig Hill Climb" both use their codename (cmr6_ followed by the event's name with underscores replacing spaces.)
  • Career event "Alpinestars Windy Point Unlimited" discipline is Hill Climb Big Rig, even though the event uses Hill Climb Unlimited cars.
  • Every world record (except for Pikes Peak; which is 5:12:35) is displayed as 3:15:12.
