This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.

26 March 2009 build

Remember when YT had a little indifferent face when a video went down? TCRF remembers.
This page or section has one or more broken YouTube links.
Please find an archived version of the video(s) or a suitable replacement.

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Try to dump or extract assets of this build if possible
  • Try to run this on devkit hardware. It's possible the some or more stability issues, including stutter audio encountered with this build are on RPCS3's end.
  • More differences.
  • Is the replay that appears if you finish event actually exists? Is it possible to trigger it?
  • Is it possible to fix profile loading and saving system in this build?
  • Does this build has debug menu as this build appears to be debug build?

A PS3 build that was released as part of TeraRelease 1.0 in 2020. This build is very different from the final game, being similar to the seen E3 2009 Demonstration build.

Differences

  • Game Legal uses Lorem ipsum dummy text as placeholder.
  • There are multiple versions of early game logos present. It should be noted that the final logo already existed at this month and was shown at the game teaser.
  • This build is still using DiRT 1 attract as placeholder.
  • Start screen poster was pink color applied to the one of DiRT 2 renders instead of green and uses simplified logo of the game.
  • Dialog appearing and disappearing animations were different.
  • News is using placeholder Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 9 wallpaper and it was named as DiRT Union.
  • User Interface main color was blue instead of green.
  • London Tracks were named as Battersea.
  • Some of language strings are not finished.
  • Camera Moves in frontend are not finished at time.
  • There is no filter (LUT) in game screen. It's likely being disabled by default or it was not implemented nor developed.
  • Subaru Impreza WRX STI Hatchback Rally's spoiler is different.
  • All trophies are using an placeholder icon.

Locations

Most of them are unfinished due to them being in early development.

Bugs

  • Profile loading System is broken

23 June 2009 Build

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Try to dump or extract assets of this build if possible
  • Add more differences and changes.
  • There are placeholder and/or temporary versions of videos in the build. Document them if there are any
  • Video listed below: Maybe try to re-record the gameplay footage but on Xbox 360 Devkit by using capture card?
  • As this build is preview build, it's known for only having Baja, Morocco, London, Croatia and Japan locations as accessible maps in DiRT Tour Mode. Is it possible to run all of maps other than the aforementioned maps in this build in singleplayer?
  • Upload more images

An Xbox 360 Preview build, dating 23 June 2009, a month and 9 days before the initial release build, that was released as part of TeraRelease 2.0 in 2021. The game is almost done at this point, but there's still noticeable differences and some unfinished things

Changes and New Features

  • Everything got updated to look like it's final build.
  • This build likely didn't had intro and attract video or there were but they don't trigger.
  • Startup Legal Credits is looking similar to final build but almost everything is white.
  • Title screen banner in RV and most of game's User Interface are now using green-lime color which is in final build.
  • Event Start camera would have multiple variations instead of one variation in final game.

Ingame Videos

Only the videos that are different to final game, are documented here below.

splash_screen.bik

Splash screen for this build. It says that it's work in progress, and doesn't representative of final game quality

us_splash_screen.bik

America variant of the splash_screen.bik video.

first_race.bik

An placeholder version of career start race. And for some reason, in this build this video doesn't play when starting a new career (or creating a new save). It was taken on an early build of the game.

intro.bik

Placeholder intro. It uses Colin McRae DiRT 1's attract movie.

tutorial_DOMINATION.bik

Placeholder video for Domination race mode tutorial.

tutorial_GATECRASHER.bik

Placeholder video for Gate Crasher race mode tutorial.

tutorial_HOTLAP.bik

Placeholder video for Timed Throwdown mode's removed tutorial.

tutorial_LMS.bik

Placeholder video for Last Man Standing race mode tutorial.

tutorial_ONE_ON_ONE.bik

Placeholder video for One-On-One Throwdown mode's removed tutorial.

Used Soundtrack

This build has more songs exist than used, in this build, but they are unused. The used songs in this build are listed below:

  • Black Tide - Shout
  • Blakfish - Jeremy Kyle Is A Marked Man
  • Die! Die! Die! - Sideways Here We Come
  • Dinosaur Pileup - All Around The World
  • Eagles Of Death Metal - Wannabe In LA

Another build, this time, only available for PS3, also released as part of TeraRelease 1.0 in 2020. This build is impossible to run as it needs to be decrypted. Pretty much similar to the build dating back 3 days ago before this, listed above, though it still has new changes

Changes

  • Most of livery thumbnails for most of cars were updated to be consistent with other thumbnails.
  • Now there are no longer any sponsors with game logo in some racing tracks except the frontend.
