Kakariko Tune

The Kakariko village theme is NOT from the final 3DS version of Oot, though it sounds similar. At least I don't think it is; please confirm before making any edits. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Go Weegee (talk • contribs)

How do you open the file?

After downloading the prototype's .cia files, how would I open them? Would I need a modded 3DS and a Gateway? Or would Citra open it? WhoIAm (talk) 17:07, 23 July 2015 (EDT)

If you want Citra to open it, download the .3ds file. The .cia is for installing onto a modded 3DS (no need for GW). -Einstein95 (talk) 19:31, 23 July 2015 (EDT)

10 years

I feel enough time has passed for me to ponder; Was this build's circulation really the result of a leak? Like, last year's Gigaleak came from Nintendo's own hard drives (and I think iQue had a partial hand in the mishap?), whilst this just came from a physical 3DS cart labeled "Trade Show Sample" (like how the Sonic 2 Simon Wai proto came from a cart from a New York Toy Fair, kinda). What exactly would differ the Gigaleak to that 3DS cart, and that 3DS cart to the carts for classic Sonic protos? What about Sonic 2's CENSOR proto? That one was leaked, or at least I think it was… --Nunof Yerbizness (talk) 08:48, 4 Nov 2021 (UTC)

I'm not sure I understand the point you're making. The Sonic Wai prototype was obtained by pirates who stole a cartridge from that one toy show, CENSOR was stolen by unknown means by the scene group CENSOR, all the data from the gigaleak was obtained by Zammais Clark when he illegally infiltrated Nintendo and iQue's servers in 2018 (iirc, either that or it was backups of the data given to iQue for the purposes of making the hardware and software for their releases). As far as we know, this is just from a cart someone happened to obtain. It's all questionably legal and questionably obtained in these cases, so I guess you could say they were all leaks? The biggest difference I can think of is something like the Gigaleak or the CENSOR build were never supposed to enter the public's eye at all, it's all internal builds and documents and whatnot. The Wai build and this cart were shown off publically at one point. It doesn't change that these getting into the hands of people for further analysis is them "leaking" out into the open, so to speak, but... Yeah. I hope this kinda clears up what you're pondering? - Luna (talk) 03:20, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
But the 1995 WCES demo for Star Fox 2 was also a part of the Gigaleak, so that's a proto that was publically shown off. I'm not claiming to be a genius at deciphering what determines a leak or not (other than the results of the Gigaleak), but the fact this demo was sourced from a cart someone had obtained, it appears to be in the general area that doesn't qualify for it to be a leak… Private computer files flying about in the public, now I consider that a leak; Such an example could be traced even earlier in an unrelated moment, when the roomscan .veg file leaked in 2010~. I feel this build and its post-E3 history should be given a professional review, just to be on the safe-side, if this can be considered a leak or not. --Nunof Yerbizness (talk) 11:48, 5 Nov 2021 (UTC)
What exactly prompted this question? Who suggested it was from a leak? Its a proto, so it goes in the prototype section. If you consider it a leak doesn't make a difference. Stuff dumped from carts have traditionally not constituted as "leaks" here. --Hiccup (talk) 16:57, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
I remember this site, some time ago, setting two rules in relation to prototype documentation; That prototypes here should only be made downloadable if it's of a game that's at least 10 years old, and that if a prototype came from a leak, it should never be up for download on TCRF. I don't know which page those rules were on, nor if they're still in motion. In short, both rules danced around my head for a bit around the time Super Mario 3D Land recently turned 10 years old, and I coincidentally happened to check Hidden Palace's page for this proto (amongst their masterlist of E3 builds sorted by year), which also showed an image of the cart it came from. Given that 3D Land is now, as mentioned, a decade old, that just leaves the query of whether or not it could truly be considered a leak… --Nunof Yerbizness (talk) 22:42, 5 Nov 2021 (UTC)
I'd be of the opinion that concerning Nintendo games as a whole, maybe the posting of the ROMS or otherwise here directly is not a good idea at all. Nintendo loves to be litigious. I'll leave that for a moderator to decide on though, just throwing my 2 cents in here. -- Luna (talk) 02:20, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
The whole subject is still a sticky one, and I would personally prefer we just not host ROMs here at all, especially for a system like the 3DS (a Nintendo system, at that) that's not quite dead yet. It's something we seriously need to discuss behind the scenes. --Rusty (talk) 02:30, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
You still seem to be implying that anyone said this did or didn't count as a leak, or should or shouldn't be available for download here. Not that it really matters - TCRF's purpose isn't to be a rom hosting site, and there are many sites you can find via google that host this prototype and many others. --Hiccup (talk) 12:34, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
