Differences from Dreamcast

While Sonic Retro has been a very helpful resource for us, when I was doing the Sonic Adventure 2 DC/GC changes, their differences page had a few errors. I may end up doing the DC/GC changes for Sonic Adventure, but if someone beats me to it, I would like to tell them to double check all of the differences, and not just list them from the get-go. --Spiritix (talk) 21:06, 14 July 2015 (EDT)

You know, I was just thinking about this particular game the past few days, and I think now's the best time to discuss a question: how different does a re-release need to be in order to be considered a "separate" game? For example, I totally understand doing DC/GC changes for Sonic Adventure 2 because it's pretty much the same game, just with minor little touch-ups. On the other hand, nobody's doing a N64/3DS comparison for the Zelda games, because they're sufficiently different to classify as "remakes".
The thing about SADX is that it really does change quite a bit compared to the DC version, and it's obvious from the get-go. If we do a DC/GC page, I think we shouldn't focus on models/textures/added Game Gear stuff, or even certain cosmetic changes like the train color- those are just changes to fit the new console. WhoIAm (talk) 21:59, 14 July 2015 (EDT)
It is an interesting question. Based on your OoT argument, I would say the line is drawn at a console generation difference. The Dreamcast and GameCube are considered the same generation, while the N64 and 3DS are not. You could bring up the GameCube re-releases of OoT, but they have their own pages on TCRF. The only flaw with this (as far as TCRF goes) is that A Link to the Past does not have a page for the GBA version. Instead, anything having to do with it are on the SNES version subpage.
Is the Dreamcast version significantly different? I haven't played it. While I was doing the SA2 differences page, I got the feeling that they had changed/added things they didn't get a chance to do during initial development. The first SA had a longer time period between it and its port, so maybe there were more things they wanted to finish than with SA2. --Spiritix (talk) 22:27, 14 July 2015 (EDT)
Well, it's not utterly different, but the differences between Dreamcast and GCN/PC are much more drastic than SA2. If you put screenshots of Sonic Adventure side-by-side, you can clearly tell which one is the newer port, while with SA2 you have to look closer (and that's why documenting SA2's differences is so interesting). I think you're right about that console generation gap being the determining factor. So I'd say, go for it. I'll help.
As for playing the Dreamcast version? Well...considering that you have access to the Dreamcast version of SA2, I don't think it would be that difficult to get SA1. Of course, you could use easier methods involving your computer only, you know what I mean ;) WhoIAm (talk) 23:16, 14 July 2015 (EDT)
Interesting... Well, if I were to start it, it'll take me awhile. I still have several screenshots I'd like to take of the SA2 differences and then I'll consider it good for now. Plus, I wasn't as fanatical of SA than I was of SA2, so I'll have to go back through and play it, both on Dreamcast and GameCube, since I don't know it as well.
I suppose the SA2 differences could wait, and I could take the screenshots later, but if you'd like to start it, that's cool. --Spiritix (talk) 00:19, 15 July 2015 (EDT)

Unused "Recap" For Super Sonic's Story

Hi! First time here, i just made an account to mention this glitch i once heard about a while back. Apparently if you go through Sonic's story without picking up the crystal ring, and then finally collecting it in Super Sonic's story, it saves and when you try to reload Super Sonic's story, you instead get an unused Recap screen before being dumped in the Hedgehog Hammer room, or you fall to your death.

Forgive me if my memory isn't the best, I never tried this glitch due to the amount of effort it takes and the fact it prevents you from completing Sonic's story. All accounts I've heard are from the gamecube version, but is it in the original or any of the other ports as well? http://www.gamefaqs.com/gamecube/589413-sonic-adventure-dx-directors-cut/faqs/26151 is the only place I could find the glitch documented under < AQ. The Hidden "Recap" Screen >. Now, I don't even know if it's true, but I recall seeing it on other websites as well. --CytricAcid (talk) 23:56, 2 August 2015 (EDT)

I don't know about the glitch that sends you to Hedgehog Hammer (could certainly be the result of uninitialized variables, HH is level 0), but if you trigger an autosave during Super Sonic's story (e.g. by completing an Action Stage) and exit, it will show you a recap screen the next time you start the story, there's nothing unused about that. Unused Chaos 0 falling action?

Looks like if Chaos 0 is hit while on top of a lamp post, it will play a unique animation where it falls down, splashes on the ground, and loses health. It's been ages since I've played this fight, but it seems this action is unused, since you have no way of damaging it while it's on top of a pole. {EspyoT} 17:27, 24 February 2016 (EST)

It looks like you can use the Light Speed Attack (after getting Ancient Light in adventure mode) to get the same effect, but you have to go back and play boss rush in trial mode since you can't normally have it before the fight. Video here. Still interesting at least, given that it requires getting an upgrade and fighting him again. --SonicFreak94 (talk) 18:10, 24 February 2016 (EST)

Unused music

Josh W's music rip website has a rip of the entire OST. The game rip labels the following tracks as unused:

  • Sonic Adventure - 900 - Unused (Extra Life Jingle).adx
  • Sonic Adventure - 900 - Unused (jingle_5).adx

  • Sonic Adventure - 900 - Unused (Mystic Ruins Title 2).adx
  • Sonic Adventure - 900 - Unused (Station Square Title).adx

Moot point to list these here, since all of these are already on the Dreamcast version's article. Safe to say whatever goes unused in the DC version doesn't need to be listed multiple times, especially for the ports. --From: divingkataetheweirdo (talk) 13:25, 16 December 2017 (EST)
The Egg Carrier's title is also not unused, it plays during the Egg Carrier's transformation sequence. Station Square's title is also used in the PC trial version's end screen. MainMemory (talk) 13:45, 16 December 2017 (EST)
