Question about the RSDK files

What are you guys using to extract the 4 files for the RSDKs? I've tried looking online and use the ones that were available, but none of them worked. The current available extractor was for Sonic Mania Plus, but Rubberduckycooly hasn't made a new version yet for Origins. So how is this possible? Does the RSDKs for Origins also use a new version of the Retro Engine? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Terra King (talk • contribs)

The RSDK formats used in Origins are the same as Mania, so Mania tools can work just fine. No Origins-branded tools have been released yet I believe, but you can take something like Axanery's RSDKv5 Extract Plus and it'll work. Do note, however, that for the CD, S1, and S2 RSDKs you'll need to use a hex editor to change the header to say "RSDKv5" rather than RSDKv3 or RSDKv4. You'll also need a file list for all the files in the games. The full list isn't complete yet, but this one includes the files for CD, S1, S2, and the majority of S3K. To use the tool, just run it from the command line and it'll print its usage. --Lavesiime (talk) 20:14, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

Developer comments

I saw on Twitter that some humorous filenames exist in the data for Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Would this be notable enough to add to the page as developer comments or messages? --Cutesycookie (talk) 01:34, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

I'd say it's notable, yeah. -WarioBarker (talk) 21:39, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

Retro Engine sprite color correction

This has been something I've been wondering about for a few years, perhaps ever since seeing that unused leftover Time Attack icon in the 2011 version of Sonic CD, but… Would it be alright and fair to, if one hasn't been found already, find a way to color-correct how the unused sprites would appear if they did in gameplay, instead of ripping directly from the raw fuschia-coated gif files? I've noticed that not just that one aforementioned sprite, but also other sprites in Origins and Mania, such as Sonic 3's title screen, have varying color discrepancies compared to how they appear in-game (for example, the bright blues, cyans and oranges appear dimmer on the raw sheets). --Nunof Yerbizness (talk) 10:34, 2 September 2022 (UTC)

Sonic Mania Leftover - Cool Bonus

I've seen this everywhere, but haven't seen anyone bring it up or document it. Sonic Mania's Cool Bonus is not only still in the code of this game, but it's still actively tallied up at the end of each act in Sonic 3.

Note the Time and Ring Bonus as seen here, and the 8,000 points that come from thin air.

Likely a developer oversight, but still one that I felt needed to be known. FawkesTheFox (talk) 17:37, 13 July 2023 (UTC)

Leftover graphics suggesting Blue Sphere editor?

There are leftover sprites I've seen speculation of perhaps being related to a Blue Sphere editor mentioned back in Stealth's mobile S3&K pitch, but the two supposed images either aren't used in any animation files or most likely only used in the teams' internal development tools. Don't know if it's at least worth mentioning the imagery on the page. TomGyroid (talk) 00:54, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

Just now seeing these sprites are already present in Sonic Mania/Unused Graphics as specifically being for a stage editor. Is this worth mentioning as potentially Blue Sphere editor-related in Origins? TomGyroid (talk) 01:07, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

Should the early Retro Engine pitch be considered prerelease?

That one they were working on in 2014, before Sega pulled the plug. If memory serves me right the Origins port was entirely new, but still retained most of the planned enhancements and features - namely the new ones for Blue Sphere (that ended up in Mania anyway). Not really prerelease for Origins, but definitely seems like it would be for the Sonic 3 port featured in it, which is a revival of the older one. gxmighty (talk) 07:35, 15 June 2024 (UTC)

About the file select icons for Tails

I couldn't find this anywhere, so I thought I'd ask here. Are the file select icons for Tails different than in the original game? Tails now has a Super form at 7 emeralds, so one would think the "Game Cleared with 7-13 emeralds" icon would depict him in his Super form (As opposed to him giving a thumbs up, like in the original S3&K.) However, I can't find any mention of this anywhere online, and going through the whole game again just to check is too time consuming for me. Charcoal190 (talk) 21:32, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
