Z/X/C buttons

I could swear those are used in the Joystick Configuration test screen... Samario (talk) 12:44, 17 December 2015 (EST)

They probably are. These are (presumably) duplicates used for testing, as they have "test" in the name. Robotortoise (talk) 19:03, 17 December 2015 (EST)
UPDATE: Okay so I'm stupid. I didn't check to see if they WERE duplicates. The name "test" is used because it's where you test the joystick. Oops.Robotortoise (talk) 01:41, 19 December 2015 (EST)

Other unused files

Also, I could swear spr_heartaqua and spr_heartorange are unused too, as you never change to an aqua/orange soul form, and the Omega/Photoshop/whatever Flowey fight uses spr_allsoul_0 / spr_allsoul_1 instead of those specific sprites (they're grouped with the player soul colour sprites too, so it seems odd that they would be used in the Omega Flowey fight anyway...) Samario (talk) 15:15, 18 December 2015 (EST)

They likely are. I had put them on the To-do page, but someone removed them. After discussing, it was simply an error on their part. I thought they'd add it back to the page, but it seems they never did... --Kayya (talk) 17:59, 18 December 2015 (EST)
A quick side note here. I am new to actually editing on this site, so I'm not entirely sure how it works. Anyway, the Undyne the Undying fully assembled sprite IS used in game. it is used when Undyne first transform into her new form (after the player attempts to kill Monster Kid but Undyne saves him at the last second). When the battle begins, the moving Undyne sprites are used like normal. I found this out while watching Undertale repainted (oddly enough). -xwasp
You mean during a "genocide route" playthough? Yes, it's used there. -Phrossi (talk) 21:00, 4 April 2016 (EDT)
Yeah, sorry about that. I'm the one who added that subsection, and i never knew that the Undyne sprite was used. I do still find it odd that it has example in the filename, even though it's used. As a sidenote, i've also added spr_heartaqua and spr_heartorange to the page.--Mephes1 (talk) 14:57, 16 April 2016 (EDT)Mephes1

Unused (or partially unused) fonts

So Undertale will use different fonts at different points in the game, usually depending on who is talking. In game, sans will always speak in lower case Comic Sans (unless he is talking seriously ie on the date with him or if you did something specific on a neutral route, in which case he will use Sans Serif) and Papyrus will always speak in capitalized Papyrus. How Undertale stores these font is on a sprite sheet, and it will pull from the sprite sheet what letters it needs for the text that needs to be displayed and in what font (I think that's how it works). However, I found out that there is lowercase Papyrus as well as capitalized Comic Sans on these sheets as well as letters/numbers not used (most likely, too lazy to check) There are some other fonts like this, as well as some completely unused fonts (Wingdings and the text used for "MISS" when you fail to hit an enemy, to name 2). should I upload these?

Whew, Copy and paste is a huge timesaver if you know how to use it correctly. Anyway, this is also on the "To Do" page. I decided to put it here as well. --Xwasp (talk) 17:51, 12 April 2016 (EDT)

Edit: sans will sometimes use uppercase letters when he is speaking normally. I'll check to see if all of the uppercase letters for comic sans are used in the pic or just the ones he uses in game. --Xwasp (talk) 21:03, 18 April 2016 (EDT)

Unsused Papyrus sprite

Can someone upload this sprite? I honestly have no idea how to do it myself.

Done. Rjd1922 (talk) 17:45, 12 March 2017 (EDT)

Quick note

Files with the prefix name 'mainchara' are all of Frisk's sprites. (Chara is a shortening of the word 'character'. Very clever.) --NinjaboySC (talk) 16:55, 6 March 2017 (EST)

spr_astigmatism_anim's red background and RPGmaker

Is there a source for the game originally being made in RPG Maker? I would've thought that GameMaker was the development tool from the beginning, and the red background for the animation was just a placeholder (or the animation was imported from RPGMaker (do rpgmaker sprites even use red backgrounds?)). ~ Rain (talk) 03:28, 27 October 2017 (EDT)

I think that originated from the fact Toby did make games using RPG Maker as a kid and the demo version using RPG Maker as its engine itself. --From: divingkataetheweirdo (talk) 15:07, 25 February 2018 (EST)

Some more unused animated sprites

The overworld sprite of Ice (spr_icecube_over) and each directional sprite for the humanoid test NPC (spr_npc_d, spr_npc_l, spr_npc_r, and spr_npc_u) all have two frames each, seemingly for a simple animation, but the page currently only shows a single frame of each as static images. There's also the 18-frame-long spr_freakbullet_old, which seems to be an unused alternate version of Memoryhead's bullets (spr_freakbullet), with the frames arranged in a different order than in the used version and a few duplicate frames added. I was going to add these to the page myself, but I don't have a graphics program that can handle making gifs with complex alpha channels on hand to do it with... --Zyxyz (talk) 15:53, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
