Dickson's diolouge: Worth noting the reason for the Melia and Riki lines?

In an Iwata Asks interview, Takeda, one of the game's developers, said the following:

"For instance, when working on the scenario for Xenoblade Chronicles, I considered the idea of having one of the hero's allies, who had always stood beside him, becoming the enemy you face at the end....But when I floated this idea to Takahashi-san, he thought that it would be pretty galling in a game if an ally that you had been through all sorts of adventures with, and constantly worked on building up their experience, ended up leaving your party and becoming your enemy."

User:PillowcasePianist reports used audio

PillowcasePianist just made an edit to remove some audio that was used, but jumped the gun a little and fired off the edit without a summary. The intended summary was as follows:

File "ahx.pkb_359" which contains "The Bionis is in danger! I have to destroy the devices attached to Egil and change the future!" is used immediately after receiving Save the Bionis!, as seen here: https://youtu.be/OUNiW6HaqhE?t=6m29s

Just wanted to ensure that it was documented that PillowcasePianist had proof before making that edit. Cheers. — Vague / Rant 00:57, 29 November 2015 (EST)

Some unused playable character voice lines may be used

I was looking through the list of unused playable character voice lines and I seem to recall hearing some of them in-game during my playthroughs. I have listed them below. I have also found and linked video evidence for some of them. They are:

"Two of them? Take them down one at a time!" - Shulk, at the beginning of the Ancient Machines battle (https://youtu.be/FNr-algeSHw?t=11m52s)

"Reyn, I'll hold off the big one's attacks with the Monado, you deal with all the little ones!" - Shulk, at the beginning of the Arachno Queen battle (https://youtu.be/BuUNuuvEjdI?t=11m28s)

"The Telethia can read our thoughts? Well, the Monado has some tricks too!" - Shulk, at the beginning of the second half of the Leone Telethia battle (https://youtu.be/LaFqaG3_eNQ?t=6m24s)

"This isn't good, Fiora!" - Shulk, upon the party receiving "Fiora's Conviction" (https://youtu.be/wPb8F4puebk?t=50s)

"Hmph. Don't think you're tough just becauase your big! Shulk, should be easy to cut him down to size with the Monado. We're counting on ya!" - Reyn, at the beginning of the first phase of the Metal Face battle in Colony 9 (https://youtu.be/081okoIRQiQ?t=24s)

"Above! Let's get it!" - Reyn, after the first phase of the Mechon M71 battle at Spiral Valley (https://youtu.be/2eNC4S4EC-s?t=3m44s)

"Dickson, get 'em!" - Dunban, to Dickson during Chain Attacks, only heard during the Mechon battle after defeating Xord (No video found)

"Ugh. Why me?" - Mumkhar, several times during the Sword Valley battle at the beginning of the game (No video found)

I will be creating and linking my own video evidence here for the lines that don't already have an associated video. All of my playthroughs have been on the Wii NTSC version of the game. All of the videos I have linked (and will link) are on the Wii NTSC version. In the mean time, can anybody else confirm that these lines are used? I want to make sure that all of this checks out before making any edits to the wiki page. - AmiableNebula (talk) 19:07, 12 Janurary 2017 (PST)

Apologies for the late reply, real life has been keeping me busy. Back when I initially was checking to see if they were used in game, my emulator wasn't playing them for some reason. I will be going through them and removing the ones that I found are actually used.--Iggy (talk) 20:24, 8 February 2017 (EST)

Three copies of the same track?

The files adx002c.adx, adx002d.adx, and adx002e.adx under Partition 0/adx.pkb on the disc seem to be copies of the same track. Is there a reason for having these three copies of a single track present? - AmiableNebula (talk) 12:59, 28 Janurary 2017 (PST)

Edit: I was looking through some more of adx.pkb's files and, as it turns out, several tracks are have two or more copies of themselves in here! I can't list them all right now, but one of them is the unused "hope" track, which has two copies! Would this kind of thing be worth noting on the page? - AmiableNebula (talk) 20:19, 9 February 2017 (PST)

Unused Sound files

The section "Leftover Japanese Audio" seems to contain battle-related dialogue. While I'm not proficient in Japanese, I understand enough to know what the subject of each one is about. The files for the seven player characters (and the six bottom files for Alvis) follow the same order, for instance, the third audio file has all the characters asking for cover. Considering this sequence, the translations are listed below:

1. "Let's go!" (likely used at the start of the battle)

2. "Watch my back!"

3. "Cover, please!"

4. "That's it!" (either used after a critical hit or at the battle end)

5. "I'm watching your back."

6. "I'm counting on you." (I can't figure this one very well, because they each use different expressions)

Even though each use a different wording for each of the expressions above (for instance, Shulk says "cover, onegai" while Sharka says "cover (wo) yoroshiku"), they mean basically the same thing.

This should provide insight on what those files mean, but I'm not sure whether these sound files are actually used in the Japanese Version.

Alvis' first three files contain different dialogue, as follows:

1. "Ah, I understand, Shulk" (in the sense of "I see your point")

2. "My visions are the same (as yours)" (or "Our visions are similar")

3. "Show me your true self" (as in "Show me what you can do")

These lines seem to come from when Shulk and Alvis discuss how the two of them are able to see the future, either in Makna or Alcamoth.

Extracting audio

I've been looking everywhere for some tools to unpack the audio and to no avail? Could someone give me some links or a quick rundown about how it's done? --Laenthor (talk) 02:56, 13 August 2019 (EDT)

Laenthor and I have been working hard to figure out how to rip stuff from this game (well, it's mostly been Laenthor and his friend haha), so for future reference for anyone who happens across this page, I made a writeup of how we were able to unpack the audio and even character models here! :) --Kadoodles (talk) 09:11, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
