So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

The Game Boy version of The King of Fighters '95 is a port of the Neo Geo fighting game, with a special guest appearance by Nakoruru of the Samurai Shodown series!

DIP Switches

Three writes of 00 are written to call C602 at startup and enable a Super Game Boy sound test, extra characters Saisyu/Rugal and Nakoruru, infinite gauge, and a duplicate Team Mode. Enable bits 01 are written to 0x1A0, and 0x1A4. Value FF is written to 0x166, and will enable the Super Game Boy sound test, characters, and debugging features.

Game Genie codes 011-A0F-E6A 011-A4F-E6A FF1-66F-E6A will enable the DIP Switches and all said features. Alternatively, use GameShark code 01FF02C6 to enable the unused SGB sound test in the options menu.

DIP Switches can be activated in-game by pressing certain button combinations at the Takara logo, although the SGB Sound Test cannot be enabled.

  • Hold A + B and press Select once to set the DIP Switches to 20.
  • To activate the second set of DIP Switches (setting them to 40), hold A + B and press Select 10 times.
  • Press Select twice more to set the DIP Switches to 60.
  • Press Select another 25 times to set the DIP Switches to C0.
  • Let go of A + B, and press Select 11 more times to set the DIP Switches to E0.

A Game Boy and Super Game Boy sound will confirm correct entry as each DIP Switch is activated.

SGB Sound Test

Japanese exclusives Nettoh Real Bout Special Fatal Fury and Beast Wars contain a sound test to allow all of the sound effects used by several Game Boy games, including The Pagemaster, Animaniacs, PokoNyan Yume no Daibouken, and others. Setting 0x166 to 10 will only enable the Super Game Boy sound test.

GameShark code 011002C6 will enable the unused SGB sound test in the options menu. The double digit parts are for the individual sound effects, while the single-digit ones change the speed and volume of the sound effect when played.

Note: The game must be played on a Super Game Boy or in SGB mode for the sound test to be enabled.

Regional Differences

The Takara logo is rather plain and in an oval for the Japanese version. The international versions made the logo red and fancier, with circles in some of the lettering.

The title screen was translated for its overseas release, and the SGB border was made darker. The logos on the border were also translated.
