This game was stuffed away in a cardboard box and found 30 years later in a garage
This game was never completed and/or given a public release.
As a result of this, keep in mind that the developers might have used or deleted some of the content featured here, had the game actually been released.

It turns out that Red Warrior didn't need dual screens bad enough.

Debug Mode

Main menu Debug option

By replacing menus_nodebug.menudat with the menus.menudat file (inside the ROM's FAT_FILES), a Debug option appears after Extras in the main menu.

The available options are:

  • Select Level: A level select
  • Unlock: Provides options to fully unlock the Bestiary and Item Compendium information sections.
  • Tapestry Test: Plays the opening backstory video that's shown when starting a new game.
  • Particle FX Viewer: Loads the Tutorial Mode level. Using L/R or Navigation buttons, the various particles in the game can be rendered on screen. On the top screen, the name of the particle effect, the number of active drawn particles, and the number of max particles, are shown. There is no apparent way to quit this debug option, without resetting the game.
  • Seal Screen Test: Shows an image on the top screen relating to the Seal of the Corruptor item; in particular, finding the 3rd piece. On real DS hardware, the background images flicker black on and off. Bottom screen shows a map.
  • Test Level: Loads the test_level map, after selecting a character and colour. The test level map is a grey square patterned map, with no enemies, items, or other objects. There's also no player audio effects, or music effects (the main menu audio plays on a loop). Loading the test map creates a save for the specific selected character, and this save can be used to play the normal game.
  • Credits: Plays the end credit roll of the production and game creation team. Pressing B quits to the main menu.
  • Popup Viewer: Allows viewing every pop up message that appears in the game, in all available languages. In this menu, a Japanese language option is available, but there's no visible text in the menu boxes. Perhaps a possible Japan release or translation was in the works.
  • Error Msg Viewer: Allows viewing every error and warning message that appears in the game, in all available languages. This mode requires the user to press the corresponding button shown the message, in order to change to another message or language. Similar to the Popup Viewer, Japanese is listed but has no present text in any the messages.

In-game, a Debug menu is available in the Pause menu, with the following options:

  • Select Level: A level select menu
  • Unlock: Provides options to fully unlock the Bestiary and Item Compendium information sections.
  • NPC: Provides two options relating to NPC characters (enemies)
  1. Movement: On/Off - Enables or disables movement of NPC characters.
  2. Kill 'Em All - Removes ALL NPC objects in the current level. Includes enemies and their generators.
  • PC: Provides several options for the player character:
  1. Invincibility: On/Off
  2. Infinite Quarters: On/Off (Infinite Lives)
  3. One Hit Kill: On/Off
  4. PM Meters: PC's/Full - Set Power Meter level
  5. XP Level: Scale from 1-15
  6. Fame Level: PC's, or 0-3
  7. Fame Lock: On/Off
  8. Speed: Normal/2x/4x - Changes only the movement speed of the player character. Other actions such as attacking still move at their regular speed.
  9. Give Item...: Provides a menu of every available usable item in the game that can be given to the player character. Once an item is given, the menu is closed and the game resumes.
  10. Give Key: Gives the player character one key each time this option is used. Once an item is given, the menu is closed and the game resumes.
  11. Modify Gold Amount: Add 1000/10000 / Subtr. 1000/10000 - Add or subtract 1000 or 10000 gold at a time.
Debug HUD enabled
  • Debug HUD: Enables a HUD on the top screen with the following information:
  1. UPS:
  2. FPS:
  3. # news (number changes while game is in motion)
  4. UT: # DI: #
  5. GA: # WA: #
  6. Mem: # GH: #
  7. Top Screen Polys:
  8. Bottom Screen Polys:
  9. Total Polys:
  10. SND Channels In Use:
  11. DBG0 to DBG3
  12. XYZ:
  13. Region:
  • Show AOE: On/Off - Unknown what this does
  • Show Pushable: On/Off - Shows pushable objects
  • Free Cam: On/Off - Enables a noclip mode, following the player character. Allows going out of bounds.
  • Dump Play Log...: Dumps a log of the current game, however where it dumps the log is unknown.
  • Reset Settings: Reset all debug settings to default, excluding the Free Cam option and PC XP Slider.
  • Credits: Plays end credits similar to the debug option in the main menu. Returns to the main menu if this option is used from within the primary game mode.
