June 2007
A build found in a source code leak from the game Postal 3, it is dated 3 months before the initial closed beta in 2007; it is the earliest known prototype of what would become modern TF2. This build is unplayable due to broken .dlls, however it contains debug .pdbs leftover from compilation, revealing what was in the build engine-wise during this time period.

September 2007
Commonly known as "Version 0", this is the closed beta that was given to people who pre-ordered or activated the "Black Box" coupon for the game, playtesters for this build would later receive the Primeval Warrior badge when the game was made F2P in 2012. This build contains essentially everything in the June 2007 proto in regards to the grenade and cut weapon textures, minus a few unique things from that proto. It is currently the earliest playable prototype of modern TF2.

2009 Closed Beta
The closed beta that was privately playtested by top-level competitive players in 2009.

The open beta that was launched in 2010, and eventually cancelled and removed from Steam in 2013.

August 2017
The source code for many Source Engine games including Team Fortress 2 leaked online in April 2020. The TF2 source code in this leak is dated around August 3, 2017.
