See, this is why server preservation is important.
This game/console's online features are no longer supported.
While this game/console's online features were once accessible, they are (as of February 1, 2010) no longer officially supported and online-exclusive features may be documented as now-unseen content.
Hmmm...
To do:
  • Grammar cleanup.
  • Crack the encrypted maps in .neo format.
  • Add screenshots of the maps.
  • What about its .wad crack down and .wad secret development work?
Cacti speak Japanese.
...But what does it mean?

Counter-Strike NEO is an arcade CS spin-off facing Japan's bustling gaming market, perhaps as Namco's attempt to hop on the series's hype train. Set in a near-future Japan, its various elements such as maps and character roles were specially Japanized. However, it ended up being a flop, and the online services were shut down by 2010.

The series's classic "Terrorist" and "Counter-Terrorists" roles are basically reversed here: the CSF which performs demolition missions are the "Counter-Terrorists", while the NEOs, the cyborgs who protect all kinds of facilities, are the "Terrorists". What's more, you normally can only play the Bomb Defusal mode.

The game has a spin-off visual novel called Counter-Strike NEO: White Memories, which has long become unavailable, though can still be read through the Wayback Machine.

Unused Game Modes

要人护送 (Assassination Mode)

While only the “Bomb Defusal” mode is available in CSNEO, there is actually an Assassination Mode map called “e17(旧实验栋) (Old Laboratory)” in the game files, which uses a unique scientist model for its VIP model. Playing much like the classic Counter-Strike 1.6 assassination mode, the CSF Spawn Zone is located on the upper level while the NEO Spawn Zone is located on the lower level, and the goal of both sides is to find a way to compete for control of the station near the VIP Escape Zone so that they are able to take control of nearby mines in order to intercept the VIP or to prevent him from being intercepted. In addition, the CSF can also throw grenades on the second floor to thwart NEO units on the first floor or intercept VIP.

キャプチャー・ザ・フラッグ(Capture the Flags)

In the game files, there is an unused map for the “Capture the Flag” mode. It provides a map called “e06(フラグマップ01)(Flag Map 01)”, where CSF and NEO spawn in each other's buildings, and both factions are not allowed to buy weapons, instead, they jump into some pits with a corresponding weapon icon to get the corresponding weapon, and the goal is to enter the flag base of the other base and raise the other's flag through the valves, whoever's flag is raised first, the other faction wins. The map plays more like “control the stronghold” than classic “capture the flag”, except that there are disposable mine switches in the flag buildings that can be used. Also, both factions have projections of each other's factions “GIGN (CSNEO Ver)” (from NEO) and “Phoneix Connection (CSNEO Ver) (from CSF)” in their buildings, which always play the default empty-handed models whenever they are played.

ショットガン コロセウム(Shotguns Fightyard)

Included in the game file is a map called “e07 (ショットガン コロセウム) (Shotgun Colosseum)”. As the name implies, both factions can only use XM1014, and the goal is to kill all members of the opposing team.

スナイパー コロセウム(Sniper Fightyard)

Included in the game file is a map called “e08 (スナイパー コロセウム) (Sniper Colosseum)”. The same as the other colosseums, but both factions use AWP.

ランダムウェポン コロセウム (Random Weapons Fightyard)

Included in the game file is a map called “e09 (ランダムウェポン コロセウム) (Random Weapons Colosseum)”. Ditto, but both factions use random weapons.

ランダムウェポン (Push Crates)

Included in the game file is a map called “e11 (せり上がりキューブマップ) (Ascending Cube Map)”. It's similar to Deathmatch, but both factions' spawn areas are in opposite sides of the map, and they need to push boxes.

海戦 (Ships war)

Included in the game file is a map called “e12 (海戦) (Sea War)”. It's a variant of Deathmatch, but there's no buy zone. Players must move around the map with the ship, and ransack armory to arm themselves and take out enemies; if anyone downed out for ship, they're dead. The map also contains several tall towers which randomly release lasers.

ナイフ コロセウム (Knife Deathmatch)

Included in the game file is a map called “e16 (ナイフ コロセウム) (Knife Colosseum)”. It's the exact same as the three colosseums above, except that both sides can only use knives.

ラッシュ&プッシュ (Rush & Push)

Included in the game file is a map called “e13 (ラッシュ&プッシュマップ) (Rush and Push Map)”. It's a variant of Deathmatch, but there's no buy zone, if anyone only elites and knife. In addition, each side's color has a button in their hall, that if pressed will cause the floor of their hall to break, and cause all players still standing on it to fall to their death.

フォール&ダッシュ (Deathrun)

Included in the game file is a map called “mat_ana_vskamata1 (フォール&ダッシュマップ) (Fall and Rush Map)”. Similar to Deathrun, but CSF and NEO must jump to bottoms, and at opposing team before press the button at the end of the long hall for quorum, which will execute all members of the enemies. On top of that, the guns may have been used to disrupt or slow down the enemies' team members.

NEOブロック崩し (Sabotage)

Included in the game file is a map called “neo_event_01 (NEOブロック崩し) (NEO Block Crumble)”. This is similar to Deathmatch, but CSF and NEO must defend their block (or cargos, that sort of thing?), and at the same time, they must also try to shoot and destroy the blocks of rival factions. Once one side's blocks are fully destroyed, the other side wins. Purchasing guns is not allowed, which implies the two factions could only combat through their designated weapons.

Unused Text

Condition Zero Script

Even though CSNEO‍ 's story is completely overhauled, the original versions of czero_schinese.txt and cstrike_schinese.txt are still present, with cstrike_schinese.txt being translated to Japanese.

Unused Player Models

Unknown CSF and Unknown NEO

The game files contain two player models called "Unknown CSF" and "Unknown NEO", which respectively look like the models of Soldier and Wraith painted in yellow and gray. In addition, selection images exist for them.

Angel

Leftovers exist for a playable character named "Angel", with her selection image implying she was a member of the CSF faction. She looks out of place among the other CSFs, with distinctive wing decals on her back, blue hair and a halo over her head.

...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.

Unused Maps

Old versions of Old City

NEO_08collision.bsp or NEO_08collision.neo are used for the map "Old City", but a map called NEO_08test also exists, which appears to be a different, playable map. Another map named NEO08 is present, appearing to be a backup of NEO_08collision, and its purpose is unknown.

Unused Bot Weapon Preferences

The bots in CSNEO are taken from Condition Zero, except they have their own set of proprietary bot profiles and difficulty presets as well as a weapons preference table. A few unused named weapons preferences exist for them.

Template WP_VIVI
 WeaponPreference = p90
 WeaponPreference = deagle
End

Template WP_CHAD
 WeaponPreference = ak47
End

Template WP_REVY
 WeaponPreference = m4a1
End

Template WP_SHARK
 WeaponPreference = galil
 WeaponPreference = sg552
End

Template WP_DIANA
 WeaponPreference = awp
 WeaponPreference = deagle
End

Template WP_JASON
 WeaponPreference = famas
 WeaponPreference = aug
 WeaponPreference = m249
End

Unused Faction Selection Cards

In owari/bmp/drum5, the folder that holds the the NEO and CSF selection card images, there are 16 cards featuring a cutout of an IRL cat, as well as 1 card with an unnamed Japanese man. It's unclear whether this is simply a placeholder or an inside joke.

Unused New Year Model Variants

There are some player models with Japanese New Year variants.

  • NEO
    • Skull
      Written behind him is the kanji for "初日の士",and above his head is an open paper fan with the Japan flag on it, which for some reason has an opaque background.
    • Warith
      Has a carp flag atop his head.
  • CSF
    • Heavy Arm
      Has a red oil-paper umbrella stuck in his back, a pinball board in his left hand, and a gyro at his left shoulder.

Unnknown Staff Skins

Among the CSF and NEO skin preview images, images named "CSF_staff" and "NEO_staff" can be found, which may be for placeholder or internal skins used by Namco staffs.
