Specifically: How can you trigger this?

If the game detects you are playing a pirated copy, several effects occur. Firstly, all audio will be extra compressed. If you still decide to try and play the game, the sound of vuvuzelas will be blaring over the music before the game locks up before any notes even appear.

This was in reference to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, where the constant blaring of vuvuzelas infamously drowned out most of the sound in the stadium, including TV commentators. The sound was widely considered to be both a nuisance and a health hazard (due to its high volume and abrasive tonality), making it a source of many jokes across the internet. BZZZZZZZZ...
