So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?
Hmmm...
To do:
  • Cover the Special DVD Edition.
  • The game's SDK was released and probably has stuff for a development page.
  • References to Activision were removed in the Bethesda-published version, most noticeably in the intro. Document this and find out which version/update these changes occurred.

The awkward Raven Software-developed entry in the series, Quake 4 tried to add some more modern game elements to the Quake formula such as vehicle levels, a higher story focus, and reloading, resulting in a fairly mixed reception.

Original prints of the Xbox 360 version included a port of Quake II (whose story this game continues) on a bonus disc with splitscreen, 1080p60 support (making it technically the first HD console game), and slightly enhanced graphics.

Unused Napalm Launcher in Singleplayer

Added in later patches, the Napalm Launcher is normally a multiplayer-only weapon. However, if the "Give All" cheat or the command "Give weapon_Napalmgun" are used in singleplayer, the Napalm Launcher can be added to the player's weaponry.

It works perfectly in singleplayer and holds 20 shots before needing to be reloaded. It even has a reload animation (not seen in multiplayer since that mode disables weapon reloading), which consists of removing the fuel tank on the bottom of the weapon and inserting a new one.

It's worth noting that the other multiplayer-only weapon, the Gauntlet, is not available in singleplayer. Even using console commands to give the weapon directly to the player will not have it appear in the inventory.

There is also an unused singleplayer model for Napalm Launcher ammo (Spawn ammo_napalmgun for the SP version and Spawn ammo_napalmgun_mp for the MP Ammo), as singleplayer uses more "normal" ammo pickups while multiplayer uses more simple Quake III Arena-style ammo boxes.

Unused Pickups

With the "Spawn" command, it is possible to spawn the pickups for every weapon. This includes the Gauntlet and Blaster, the weapons normally always equipped by the player in multiplayer and singleplayer respectively.

Neither of these can be picked up by the player. Whether this is because these are unfinished or due to both weapons being infinite ammo (since the player can only pick up a copy of a weapon if they don't have maxed ammo) is unknown.
