A hardware add-on for the Genesis that provided additional hardware functionality. While it did provide a sizable boost to the aging system's capabilities, it was also a bit cumbersome to set up (such as the fact it had its own power supply), and some of its games were little more than slightly improved ports of Genesis titles.
The biggest issue, however, was the Sega Saturn, which launched the same month in Japan and would be released just six months later in the US, dooming the 32X to a mere curiosity. The initial price of $160 was dropped to $99 in September 1995 and later plummeted to $20 just to get the remaining inventory out. A total of 40 games were released.
