LittleBigPlanet HUB was to be a free-to-play version of LittleBigPlanet 2, offering the story modes from the first two games (albeit with every world paywalled besides The Gardens and Da Vinci's Hideout) and the same Create Mode experience as its predecessors. New to HUB were Challenges, which allowed players to record ghost data in any supported level for others to compete against.

Originally announced at Gamescom 2013, HUB was being developed alongside the then-unannounced LittleBigPlanet 3 but was silently cancelled sometime in 2014. Much of the content made for it would later resurface in various forms — notably, the assets made for the game's Introduction level were touched up and released in the Seaside Surprise Level Kit. An Internal Beta was held in late 2013, with screenshots from it being leaked in January 2014. Finally, a beta build was found and preserved on February 25, 2024, over a decade after the game's announcement.

Despite being built off of LittleBigPlanet 2, most of that game's content is not actually present in the files, as it was intended to be downloaded from a server that no longer exists.
