Call of Duty: Black Ops III (Windows)
Call of Duty: Black Ops III |
---|
Developer: Treyarch This game has unused objects. This game has a prototype article |
Black Ops 3 was the second of the Exo-movement Call of Duty games, with a co-op Campaign plus Zombies and Multiplayer offerings. Not to be confused with the PS360 port that gave us ultra blurry Last Gen Richtofen.

Unused Weapons
KAP-40
Weapon ID: kard
Can be found on certain characters' bodies. Behaves exactly as it does in Black Ops II, albeit with no firing sounds. The viewmodel is broken, resulting in the weapon model being positioned off-screen, but is easily viewable in third person:
There is a pink square with the text "DELETE ME!!!!!!!!!" on the side of the weapon.
Chaser
Weapon ID: chaser
A cut lock-on rocket launcher.
ROBOT_GUN
Weapon ID: robot_gun
The scrapped M160 assault rifle from Advanced Warfare with a default pink texture, the KN-44 magazine and animations, and no firing sounds.
Because it uses the KN-44's animations, the animation for aiming down sights is not angled correctly and does not allow the sights to be usable:
It was likely cut early in development.
Curiously, the file name for the model refers to it as the M229 (wpn_t7_m229_world_LOD0
).
BASEWEAPON
Weapon ID: baseweapon
A solid pink version of the M27 from Black Ops II that lacks any sounds.
M8A4
Not to be confused with the M8A7 used in this game, or the M8A1 used in Black Ops II. It is essentially just a much less detailed, textureless M8A7. The model is a world model, meaning it is intended to be viewed in third person. The viewmodel is not present, but its animations are, and are used for the weapon's finalised counterpart, the M8A7. It was usable in the April 13th prototype, where it appears grey in-game. Why the name was changed is not known.
DNI Shotgun
Weapon ID: shotgun_dni
A fairly mysterious weapon. It uses the Haymaker 12's model and animations, along with the 205 Brecci's firing sounds, as placeholders. It is a specialist weapon and is a full-auto shotgun with a rather dismal rate of fire. Additionally, you cannot prone with this weapon equipped. If this weapon were completed and implemented, it would have been exclusively used by a new specialist character, as with the rest of the game's specialist weapons.
Select Fire
Despite the select fire mechanic from Black Ops II being entirely absent in this game, five of the firing mode HUD textures from Black Ops II were redesigned to fit the game's aesthetic. Another three firing modes have textures present, but dummied out: Hybrid (i.e. capable of both lock-on and free firing), Lock-On and Free. Given the final game displays the firing mode as small text tucked in with the ammo count, it's probable these textures were designed with a noticeably different HUD design in mind.
Multiplayer
Unused Weapons
Assault Rifles
- M27 (Zombies) - Can be obtained via console commands on the Zombies map Der Eisendrache via the weapon codename "hk416".
- M27 (Specialist dummy weapon) - Used as a dummy weapon for specialist abilities if the player manages to equip one as a weapon. Cannot shoot and is lackluster in animations.
Launcher
- EMP Launcher - Sound files remain. It's unknown if it was a specialist ability or a stand-alone weapon.
Oddities
- The codename of the L3FT.E melee weapon is "melee_prosthetic", which suggests the melee weapon was originally a prosthetic hand.
- The Haymaker 12 has "FAS X12" on the weapon icon which is absent from the weapon model. This text isn't on the icon in the Multiplayer Beta.
Regional Differences
- The Peacekeeper MK2's name in the Russian version uses the Peacekeeper's English name instead of using the Russian name of the Peacekeeper weapon from Black Ops II.
- In the Simplified Chinese translation, Scavenger is called 資源回收 Resources Recovery.
- The Ice camouflage is called "Diamond" in some versions of the game, such as the Italian version.
- The COD XP camouflage was only obtainable from a code given out to attendees of Call of Duty XP 2016, an English-only event held in the US. These restrictions meant it was essentially restricted to English-speaking countries.
- In the English version, the button prompt to activate a killstreak is "L1 + R1". Some languages require extra text to explain this, and in those languages, the text to show this is coloured white.
- The chalk messages on walls in Zombies were not translated in the Italian version.
