It's Tecmo NBA Basketball, but Super-er. It was fairly well-received at the time of release, until a year later when NBA Jam hit and left all other basketball games in a smoking crater.

Version Differences

Two versions of the game were released. The first version has the serial code XM and the later version has the serial code NA. In the US, both versions were released. In Europe, it seems only the XM version was released and Australia received the NA version.

Michael Jordan

The major difference between the two versions is the inclusion of Michael Jordan in the game. The XM version features the famous baller as starting guard for the Chicago Bulls. However, the NA version removes him from the game and replaces him with player #99, "GUARD BULLS". The stats have changed slightly, and the player portrait is replaced with a generic silhouette instead.

It is unclear why Jordan's name and likeness were removed. He did retire (temporarily) from basketball in 1993, but did not announce this until October 6, so there would be no reason to take him out of the second run in June.

The Sega Genesis version of the game, released after the SNES version, never included Michael Jordan. Additionally, the Genesis version replaces Boston Celtics player Reggie Lewis (who passed away July 27, 1993) with a similar silhouette and name "FORWARD CELTICS".

Intro Movie

The introductory sequence for the later version adds an NBA logo to the glass backboard, and does not display a team name during the "swish" point scene.
