A humble company from Japan, SUNSOFT is the games division of SUNCORPORATION. Throughout the 1980's to the early 2000's, SUNSOFT produced and published many games for the arcades and consoles like the Famicom and NES, Sega Mega Drive and Genesis, and the Game Boy, with much emphasis seemingly being placed for the Family Computer and Nintendo Entertainment System.

During the later years of the Famicom and NES, SUNSOFT would begin to increase the quality of their music by incorporating then-obscure sound design choices into their games. This would escalate to the creation of the SUNSOFT 5B IC for the sole purpose for managing memory and extra sound channels for the video game Mr. Gimmick. After 2002, the already-small company slowly faded to obscurity. That would change in 2009, when many of their games were republished on the then-thriving Wii.

Nowadays, SUNSOFT is known today in chiptune and retro game discussions for their sound team's purely awesome feats regarding sound design on the Famicom and NES, along with their miscellaneous licensed games.
