As a launch title for the Game Boy Advance, Castlevania: Circle of the Moon was one of the more impressive games for the system despite some clunky design.
It's also unique for being one of the few Game Boy Advance titles to not have a brightened color palette; unfortunately, this made it really hard to see what was going on on-screen for early Game Boy Advance models, which lacked a backlight.
For whatever reason, the subtitle was omitted in Europe, resulting in some unneeded confusion. Thank you, Konami.
Circle of the Moon was included in the Castlevania Advance Collection released in 2021. Being able to play it on bigger screens you can actually see makes a huge difference, huh?

Regional Differences
Title Screen
Japan | US | Europe |
---|---|---|
The US/European version listed additional publisher information and a "Licensed By Nintendo" label at the title screen, which did not get featured in the Japanese version.
EXP Requirement
Japan | US/Europe |
---|---|
The EXP required for level ups was increased by 20% in non-Japanese releases.
Bug Fixes
Japan | US/Europe |
---|---|
There's a glitch present in the Japanese release; If you go to Outer Wall after defeating Death before Camilla, the Wind Armor meant to replace the Fire Armor is mistakenly rendered invisible, with only a glitched hitbox remaining that causes Nathan to take damage from thin air. In non-Japanese releases this glitch is fixed and the Wind Armor appears correctly after beating Death.
