The Fire Emblem series began as a tactical JRPG series in Japan. Two of the characters - Marth from the very first game and Roy from the then-upcoming sixth entry - were added as playable characters in Super Smash Bros. Melee, leading to support for the localization of future games (...aside from Shin Monshou no Nazo). The series is mainly popular in Japan, but overseas entries have increased awareness of the franchise.
