Mortal Kombat 3 is the point where the handheld ports had to strip a lot of content out of the game.

Friendship

Mortal Kombat 3 (GB) friendship.png

Friendships, one of finisher types in the original arcade game, was planned to be included in the game. All coding, move sequences and a particular message are still in the ROM. However the move sequences were removed from the moves lists of all characters, or maybe replaced with the same common "Mercy" move sequence. As a proof of concept, for example use Game Genie code 235-60B-6E2 to Sindel's Babality (Towards, Towards, Towards, Up) with its Friendship. Unfortunately, there are no special visuals here at all, only the opponent sprite recovers to its normal state. Also, some of the move sequences for the Friendships interferes with other used moves sequences which prevent its normal triggering if they are added to the moves list (Sindel for example has a Friendship moves list at $008561 in ROM as Towards, Towards, Towards, Towards, Towards, Up, which is due to a specific method of sequence testing which always triggers it's Babality first).

Unused Sprites

Four sprites for Shao Kahn exist that aren't seen in normal gameplay. From left to right: his MK3 fireball move (the final game uses his MKII fireball move, where he crouches and tosses the blast like a baseball); getting up from a fall; a throw frame (first seen in MK Trilogy, unused in the arcade version); a jumping frame (for jumping straight up).

MK3GB sheeva unused.png
A secondary falling frame for Sheeva is included.

MK3GB prejump unused.png
All the characters except Sonya have pre-jump sprites.
