Shift 2: Unleashed is a sequel to 2009's Need for Speed: Shift, a racing simulator which is a spiritual predecessor to the Project CARS series.

Unreleased cars

5 Cars previously featured in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit were intended to be released as a paid DLC, however, as EA focused on Need for Speed: The Run, the cars went unreleased and unused but functional in the game files.

Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI quattro (Type 42)

The Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI quattro (Type 42), a convertible variant of the Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro (Type 42) is a hidden car in the game files, the original 4.2 FSI coupe appeared in the original game. It's price tag is $195,000, with a base performance index of B 1200. Once works converted, it is automatically equipped with 18 inch HRE COMP90 rims and Yokohama racing slicks. However this car appear as an A.I. opponent vehicle.

Aston Martin DBS Volante

The Aston Martin DBS Volante, a convertible variant of the Aston Martin DBS is a hidden car in the game files, It's price tag is $184,600, with a base performance index of C 995. Once works converted, it is automatically equipped with 19 inch BBS CK rims and Yokohama racing slicks.

Alfa Romeo 8C Spider

The Alfa Romeo 8C Spider, a convertible variant of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione is a hidden car in the game files, It's price tag is $174,000, with a base performance index of C 900. Once works converted, it is automatically equipped with 20 inch HRE COMP90 rims and Falken racing slicks.

Koenigsegg Agera

The Koenigsegg Agera is a hidden car in the game files, It's price tag is $720,000, with a base performance index of A 1829. Once works converted, it is automatically equipped with Work Meister S1 3P (18 inch front, 19 inch rear) rims and Yokohama racing slicks.

Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster

The Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster (non-Hot Pursuit edition) is a hidden car in the game files, It's price tag is $860,000, with a base performance index of A 1869. Once works converted, it is automatically equipped with ATS GT-Racing rims and Yokohama racing slicks.

Unused Prices

Several cars feature unused prices, which are removed for being either a free reward car or being purchased with real money.

Shutdown message

Due to EA shutting down servers for 5 older Need For Speed games on September 1st 2021. A shutdown message will show up when attempting to log in or play online.

Interestingly, this is the only NFS game to have a shutdown message while others didn't. This message is also used in FIFA and NHL games whose servers shut down, while Madden games that shut down used the "Sorry, it appears the EA Servers are currently down. We are working to address the problem. Please try again later." message instead.

But since January 31st 2024, this shutdown message will not show up anymore, this shutdown message will show up instead: "Sorry, it appears the EA Servers are currently down. We are working to address the problem. Please try again later. For additional information, please see ea.com/unable-to-connect ."

Unused GUI Minimap Textures

Unused GUI minimap textures seen in the game files of the final release proves that some circuits would be either to be released with the unreleased cars on a DLC, just leftovers from its prequel, or tracks that is totally cut from the final release.
