Also known as: Zelda no Densetsu: Kamigami no Triforce 2 (JP) This game has unused areas. |
To do: English, Spanish, and French text differences between the US and European versions. |
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is the third entry of the series to be set in the Hyrule of A Link to the Past (the second being the relatively-obscure Inishie no Sekiban), and offers an open concept for dungeon progression, a paid weapon system, and Ravio.

Internal Project Name
A Link Between Worlds is referred to internally as "Jack". The reason for this becomes apparent when looking at the internal names of other Zelda games released in the same timeframe: Ocarina of Time 3D is known as "Queen", The Wind Waker HD is known as "King", and Majora's Mask 3D is known as "Joker", while Tri Force Heroes is known as "Alice".
The last moniker might seem out of place, until you remember the playing card elements in the classic tale of Alice in Wonderland, which this seems to be a reference to.

This texture is found in various model files. 仮 translates to "temporary".

Three placeholder wall textures:
Outfits
These are placeholders for the young woman's clothes. It's called "obj_dress" and is located in the textures of indoor locations (idr_Common.bch).
Dungeon Background
This dummy background depicts Hyrule Castle from A Link to the Past. It was meant to be displayed while at a high location, such as the Tower of Hera. This image appears in eight different dungeon files.
Interface Icons
This action button, seen in the (then-unnamed) A Link Between Worlds downloadable eShop video, still remains in the game's data.
Link
This placeholder version of Link in his painting form has a white zero on it. Its filename is PeraLinkLv0.

Unused Areas
There are two sets of unused areas, designed by different staff members. These two people are Ryutaro Kanno and Takayuki Ikkaku. According to the credits, Kanno was responsible for field planning, while Ikkaku worked on dungeon planning. Indeed, the leftover areas tied to their names reflect their roles in development.
Kanno focused on recreating areas from A Link to the Past in three dimensions, while Ikkaku created some new locations.
Kanno Maps
FixedKanno1 - Lost Woods
The Lost Woods have been recreated, but the area doesn't quite resemble the original from A Link to the Past.

There's a New Super Mario Bros.-style signpost here instead of a standard Legend of Zelda one. Both Ryutaro Kanno and Takayuki Ikkaku have worked on New Super Mario Bros. games in the past.
FixedKanno42 - Zora Lake
Zora Lake was also recreated in 3D.

This map resembles its A Link to the Past counterpart much more closely than the Lost Woods area above.
FixedKanno43 - Under the Bridge
This area, underneath the bridge, features a tent and a bonfire. The opposite wall is plain and featureless.
FixedKanno46 - Lost Woods Poe Area
The Poe puzzle section of the Lost Woods.
