Doesn't involve Bomberman detonating popular rock tunes, but does involve saving the galaxy with his techno beats. Close enough, really!

This one is a platformer!

A LOT of work was done between the JP and US/EU versions. And it shows.

Debug Mode

A pretty substantial debug mode can be enabled by entering one of the following GameShark codes:

Version GameShark code
USA/EU 8016E424 0001
Japan 8016E41B 0001

Main Menu

Bomberman Hero Main Debug.png

Accessed by pausing during gameplay and pressing L. Functions are as follows:

  • TIMER BAR ON/OFF: Adds a debug display of some sort to the bottom of the screen.
  • DEBUG DISPLAY MODE: Enables a few different debug displays. 0 = None, 1 = Level Info, 2 = Coordinate Display.
  • NO DAMAGE: Turn this on to prevent Bomberman from taking any damage.
  • NO ATTRIBUTE: Turn this on to prevent Bomberman from interacting with things in the environment, such as teleporters and the stage clear area.
  • G BUTTON DEBUG: Turn this on to enable a free-movement mode by holding Z. Holding A moves Bomberman up and holding B moves him down. Holding Z as a level loads makes Bomberman gold. This also allows the current level to be instantly completed by pressing Z+L.
  • BOM: Toggles how many bombs Bomberman has, up to 4.
  • FIRE: Toggles how many fireballs Bomberman has, up to 4.
  • DISPTYPE: ?

Pressing L again also allows the lighting and fog effects to be edited.

Action Menu

Accessed by pressing Z+Start during gameplay. Functions are as follows:

  • GAME START: Resets the game.
  • MAP NUMBER: Level Select. Maps 71 through 7F are test areas and maps 80 and higher are the game's cutscenes. Pressing A here loads the selected map.
  • MAP TEST: Doesn't seem to work properly. The maps don't load using this function.
  • CAMERA TYPE: Sets Camera Type. Type 2 is the regular camera, which is selected by default. Type 1, however, is a free camera. Using the C-buttons rotates the camera and pressing Up and Down on the D-pad zooms the camera in and out. Camera Types 3 and higher seem to be the same as Type 2. Pressing A on this function confirms the Camera Type selected.
  • TITLE TEST: Doesn't seem to do anything.
  • ENTRY EDIT: Map Editor.
  • MUSIC NUMBER: Music Test.
  • SOUND NUMBER: Sound Effect Test.
  • DEMO: Views the opening cutscene.
  • SHOCK TEST: Test for the Rumble Pak with three duration-related values to change, with a value of 60 being equal to one second.
    • TOTAL TIME: Total duration of the rumble test. The ON TIME will be followed by the OFF TIME to establish a rumble pattern that will repeat until this value is reached. Negative values cause the Rumble Pak to vibrate indefinitely.
    • ON TIME: Rumble duration period. Negative values cause the OFF TIME value to be ignored.
    • OFF TIME: Wait duration period. Negative values cause the rumble pattern to play once, but not repeat.

Hmmm...
To do:
