Also known as: Hoshi no Kirby Star Allies (JP)/Byeorui Kirby Star Allies (KR)/Xīng Zhī Kǎbǐ: Xīn Xīng Tóng Méng [星之卡比:新星同盟] (ZH) This game has unused playable characters. This game has a bugs page |
This article is a work in progress. ...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes. |
To do:
|
Kirby Star Allies is a lesson in keeping your friends close, your enemies closer, and your death god of an apocalypse cult closest.
Don't try this at home, kids.
Notably, the first Kirby game to hit China.

Unused Characters
Hyness
The model for Hyness is located with the other playable characters, indicating that at some point he was meant to be a full-fledged Dream Friend! Sadly, this never came to fruition, although the Three Mage-Sisters became playable in Wave 3.
Hyness also has unused yellow, blue, and green recolors for multiplayer and side modes.
Unused Moves
Revolution Beam
Revolution Beam from Kirby's Return to Dream Land, which got cut in Kirby Triple Deluxe and hasn’t seen the light of day since, has two fully programmed animation scripts and animations registered, but has no state for Beam Kirby to use. Despite lacking a script, Beam’s WhipAlgorithm class has the variables (bool) mToRevolution, (bool) mCanTryRevolution, and (int) mTriggerCount, all accessed by the class’s initialization function, but never actually used outside of Waddle Doo’s in-water states and the Beam Whip state setting mCanTryRevolution to false when they’re supposed to. The move shares similar characteristics in Kirby: Planet Robobot, where its states are nowhere to be seen, but its animation scripts are present.
Sky Energy Sword
To do: We could probably use a video here. |
Sword's Sky Energy Sword attack from Kirby: Triple Deluxe, accessible by holding up while standing, is almost fully programmed in. Much like StateSummonHelperPre, Sky Energy Sword's "TryToChangeState" function instantly returns. However, unlike that state, Sky Energy Sword is actually called twice!
Sword's AbilityState class, code that controls Sword's unique code and states, attempts to make Kirby use Sky Energy Sword at the very end of its function for trying to use Sword’s different moves. The second time Sky Energy Sword is attempted to be accessed is during Hat Thrust, among the checks for cancelling into Sword’s other attacks. Because the state for requesting an element requires holding up for a certain period of time, Sky Energy Sword will work properly alongside it and will take priority, so it’s not known why it was scrapped. It's likely developers didn’t want Kirby to have to charge Sky Energy Sword before being able to gain an element.
With some modifications, it’s possible to use the move again. It's almost fully functional, with Kirby being able to charge the sword beam. However, Kirby is unable to fire it, as it’s never attempted to be spawned during the moves that shoot it. The beam object itself does also exist and is fully programmed, even having a hitbox and reacting properly to collisions. None of Kirby’s moves actually clear the charge, so the charge is permanent once he gains it. Overhead Slash can be restored to make it fire the beam, but elements won't work on it.
Marx Boss Data
While Marx was added as a Dream Friend in version 2.0.0, he also was added as a boss during the credits of the Heroes of Another Dimension when it was added in version 4.0.0. Even though it's unseen, he actually has data for a boss health bar and designated music track that both go unused since he was programmed as a bonus fight during the credits, much like Meta Knight and King Dedede. With a few tweaks, however, you can load Marx as a regular boss and the unused attributes can be seen. The music set for the fight is "Vs. Marx — Star Allies Dream Ver.", which is used in Morpho Knight's battle in Guest Star ???? and The Ultimate Choice when playing as Marx.
Since no end result was programmed after you defeat him, the player will be stuck, forcing them quit the game. Marx can be loaded into any room due to not having any arena data attached.
Kirby Super Star-Style Helper Summons
There exists an unused and somewhat unfinished set of states in the game named StateSummonHelperPre and StateSummonHelper. The first of these two is supposed to dim the screen and the second creates a new Helper using Kirby's current Copy Ability, applying Kirby’s current element to the Helper as well. These functions make spawning a Helper in a similar way to Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra. Summoning is triggered with the X button, though the state lacks checks for being in The Ultimate Choice. Kirby's Ability won't be cleared due to the code for it being manually disabled by a jump instruction.
Not only is StateSummonHelperPre's "TryToChangeState" function never called, it also instantly returns despite the rest of the function having code. Presumably, the developers disabled the Copy Ability clearing code to initially test the state, but then the mechanic was scrapped and replaced by the Friend Heart mechanic, where they then removed all references to the state and forced any potential calls of it to never work.
DebugSandbag Enemy
The game hosts an unused Debug object to spawn a dummy enemy. This unused enemy is initialized with 999 HP and is set to never be able to be killed. It has 3 different variations:
- TypeZako: Uses the model of a Waddle Dee.
- TypeGroundBoss: Uses a Waddle Dee resized by 2 times, classified as a Mid-Boss.
- TypeAirBoss: Uses the model of a Bronto Burt resized by 2 times and is also classified as a Mid-Boss.
When initialized, it creates a separate object with the specified variation type and then acts as a handler for the rest of the object's functions, keeping track of a lot of interesting variables. The object logs the amount of time the sandbag is in hitstun and how much damage it's taken in that time, as well as logging the most amount of damage that’s been dealt.
The object creates the strings “>>> リセット中 [残り%2.2f秒] <<<”, "*** 計測中 [%.2f秒経過] ***", and "<<< 待機中 >>>" (translated to ">>> Resetting [%2.2f seconds remaining] <<<"; "*** Measuring [%.2f seconds elapsed] ***" & "<<< Waiting >>>") while the sandbag is invincible, in hitstun, and idling respectively. The first string replaces the “%2.2f” with the mInvincibleFrame timer's remaining frames divided by 60. The second string replaces the “%.2f” with the damage monitor timer (mMeasureTime) divided by 60. It most likely outputted them to the console log during development, but this code was removed from the final game, thus doing nothing with them.
If the sandbag is left idle for 300 frames, it's fully healed, accompanied by the healing sound and particle effect. If a sandbag is killed, its parent object respawns it immediately. This object won't create a sandbag enemy in the vanilla game due to never entering its StateMain state. Mint edits are needed to be able to create the object properly.
Unused Debug Scripts
Under Scn.Step.Debug in the game's Step.bin Mint archive, there exist a lot of debugging scripts, most of which are completely empty. Please note that all of these are prefixed with “Scn.Step.Debug.”.
Script Name | Description / Contents |
---|---|
CameraFilterMaxSizeCamera | Contains a completely blank constructor and the function “Register”, which takes in a Scn.Step.Camera.Manager, but will always return 0. |
ExtButtonEmulation | Initializes the static value NonSupportButtonKind to 0. |

Unused Music
Quite a few tunes found in this game's files end up going unused in some capacity. Some of them were from other Kirby games while some are alternate versions of tracks that first appeared in Star Allies.
Unused Alternate Versions
Unused (BGM_LP_ECDLFFDORO1) | Used (BGM_NOLP_ECDLFFDORO1) |
---|---|
Unused variation of "Daroach Comes Calling!" (Daroach's Dream Friend jingle). This version uses the Squeaks' sound at the end and was used in Daroach's reveal video, but not in the finished product.
Unused (BGM_LP_ECDLSUSIE1) | Used (BGM_LP_ECDLSUSIEROOM1) |
---|---|
Unused variation of "The Noble Haltmann — Star Allies Arrangement" (Susie's secret room theme). The unused version has a different intro and slightly different mixing.
Unused (crowned_2018_0906a) | Used (crowned) |
---|---|
Unused variation of "Supreme Ruler's Coronation - OVERLORD" (Magolor's Morpho Knight boss theme). The unused variation has slightly different instruments and mixing, most apparent with the percussion at 1:11. The unused version is timestamped as 6 September 2018, which was around two months before the release date of the Wave 3 DLC.
Unused Music from Other Games
"Spring Breeze: Title" (BGM_LP_NTHARUTITLE1) from Kirby Super Star Ultra. Based on its usage in Kirby: Triple Deluxe and Kirby: Planet Robobot, it may have been intended for a HAL Room.
The Theater's staff credits music (BGM_LP_SIMPLE1) from Kirby: Triple Deluxe.
"Interdimensional Traveler" (Drop_StaffRoll) from Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe.
"Stadium: Drag Race" (EX_Ar04Atk) from Kirby Air Ride. Its file name is the same as in Kirby: Planet Robobot.
"Goal!" (FanfGoal) from Kirby: Planet Robobot.
"Kirby Fighters Deluxe" (FighterTitle2014_0401) from Kirby Fighters Deluxe.
"Helper's Rest" (is_usdx_QKJ) from Kirby Super Star Ultra. Its filename starts with "is", which is used by the rest area themes in The Ultimate Choice's Soul Melter EX, so it may have been intended to be used there.
"VS. Mega Masher" (k64_isyoku) from Kirby: Planet Robobot, which is a remix of "Heading for 0²", the Dark Star theme from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.
"Metal N. Vasion" (mboss) from Kirby: Planet Robobot.
Dark Taranza's battle theme (TaranzaBoss) from Team Kirby Clash Deluxe.
The minigame theme (TTEXK3SUB) from Kirby's Dream Land 3. Its file name is the same as in Kirby: Planet Robobot.
"City Trial: City (Backside)" (TTSUBCITY2) from Kirby Air Ride. Its file name is the same as in Kirby: Planet Robobot.
"Candy Mountain" (TTSUBDYNA1) from Kirby Super Star. Its file name is the same as in Kirby: Planet Robobot.
There is also an unused duplicate of "Revenge of the Enemy" from Kirby: Triple Deluxe which uses the same filename as that game, "BGM_LP_KAZAN1". The used variant was renamed "is_masked".
Internal Project Name
The project's internal name is "Eclair", according to strings in the game's code. Eclair is a type of dessert, much like Kirby: Triple Deluxe's internal project name, "Parufe."

Regional Differences
Tutorial Completion
Japanese | International |
---|---|
In the Japanese version of the game, during the tutorial, a red circle will appear whenever an action is properly completed. In the international versions, a green check mark will appear instead. This is likely because tests in Japanese schools have circles represent correct answers while check marks represent wrong answers, whereas it is the opposite in international schools.
This change is also in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition, Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Kirby: Planet Robobot and Kirby Battle Royale.

Void Termina, Destroyer of Worlds
To do: There's a lot more than this related to abandoning references to Void Termina being a "God of Destruction". |
Most mentions of Void Termina in the Japanese, Chinese and Korean versions refer to him as a "God of Destruction," whereas in the other versions, he is referred to as a "Destroyer of Worlds." This also applies for the True Destroyer of Worlds variant in Soul Melter EX.
On a similar note, before fighting Hyness, he goes off on a ramble before shouting at Kirby to "PLEASE DISAPPEAR FOREVER!" in the English version. In the Japanese, Chinese and Korean versions, he shouts at Kirby to "PLEASE DIE FOR OUR GOD!"
