Audio File Rename

How can I rename already existing audiofile? For example, [this]. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Fission Power (talk • contribs)

There should be a move button on the top bar. I moved the file and another one for you. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 22:21, 25 November 2019 (EST)

Multiple images

Hello! Really sorry, but something went wrong when I was uploading this image. Since there's a few duplicates on there taking up space, could you delete the others please? https://tcrf.net/File:JB-DawnPatrol1.png The preceding unsigned comment was added by RadSpyro (talk • contribs)

Done. You can just refresh the page a few times until the proper image appears (or clear the browser cache). --From: divingkataetheweirdo (talk) 13:47, 4 August 2019 (EDT)
Awesome, will give it a hard refresh next time. Thanks! RadSpyro (talk) 13:48, 4 August 2019 (EDT)
May as well ask here, but are LionKingPre-Advert2.jpg and LionKingPre-Advert1.jpg prerelease images showing up for you? The full link seems to work, but the thumbnails aren't showing when I preview the article, even after a hard refresh. The original files were JPG, but I can switch them to PNG if necessary. Fallout: New Vegas DLC icons

How can I get the new icons I uploaded for the DLCs of Fallout: New Vegas to display properly? I asked on the talk page but haven't gotten a response. rjd1922 (talk) 21:39, 8 August 2019 (EDT)

They'll likely need to be recompressed with PNGCrush or something. It's clear that the compressor you're using is corrupting the thumbnails. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 21:57, 8 August 2019 (EDT)
I fixed the Honest Hearts and Old World Blues icons, but I can't fix the Lonesome Road one. I tried reuploading it uncompressed after recoloring this icon gray in GIMP, but it still has the same problem. PNGCrush didn't work on it, compressed or uncompressed. rjd1922 (talk) 00:55, 9 August 2019 (EDT)
Thanks for fixing it! rjd1922 (talk) 06:36, 10 August 2019 (EDT)

Deletion of The Blackout Club.jpg

I'm here to appeal.
The reason you provided was to the effect of "Please upload an image of the title screen, not the boxart". There is no title screen in this game. You boot the game up, there's an intro cutscene while the game loads, and then you're put in the lobby. There's no title screen.
Furthermore, the game is a digital distribution. The image that was used is of the PCGamingWiki's graphic representing the game's article. And, the last time I checked, it's the image used for Steam's store page of the game, with the bottom third of the image (representing an antagonist) cropped off.
Please advise. Nox13last (talk) 00:52, 19 September 2019 (EDT)

We don't use promo images for the Bob. The next best thing I can suggest is to see if the game has a log-in screen (or you can just use any place within the game that shows the game's name before going straight into gameplay). This seems to be the closest thing as to what represents a title scren here. As a last resort, you can simply just add a "noscreen" argument to the Bob. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 00:58, 19 September 2019 (EDT)
I'll see what I can rustle up. The game *does* have a splash screen while the engine is initialising. But it's identical to the image used on the Steam Store Page. Would that count? Nox13last (talk) 01:02, 19 September 2019 (EDT)
If it's as a last resort, probably. But also make sure it's a PNG, unless the game's files already stores it as JPEG. In the latter case, use {{alreadyJPEG}} --From: CounterDiving (talk) 01:05, 19 September 2019 (EDT)
I'm in the game files. The intro files do not have any sort of branding for the game - only the developer and the publisher logos. The game does not actually have *any* kind of meta-branding within its environment whatsoever. The game also doesn't have any sort of login infrastructure that requires input from the player - seeming to take place seamlessly behind the intro cutscenes and dev/pub MP4s. The game's pre-init splash is in BMP.
I admit to having only just noticed the Softpedia image you linked. In theory, that seems to fit your criteria best of all, but in the time I have played this game, I haven't seen anything resembling that (or I would have used that instead). It might have sat between the intro cutscene and the loadout lobby (where control is given to the player), but as of at least a few months ago, that screen has not existed, and the player has not been expected to perform any sort of action before engaging the game. the "Logged into server" message happens when control is given. I also do not know who or what 'Lightheal' is.
Would this image of yours still be preferable to the other candidates (the old image, the pre-init splash (converted appropriately), the Steam store image, or noscreen)? Nox13last (talk) 01:24, 19 September 2019 (EDT)
"the pre-init splash (converted appropriately)" Admittedly, the Softpedia image appears to be for the PS4 release. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 01:29, 19 September 2019 (EDT)
This is the pre-init splash screen. Is this an acceptable thing to put in the Bob? I kind of want to get it right this time. I also was not aware that there was a Playstation 4 release. Seems I did not do my due diligence. I'll change the article accordingly. Nox13last (talk) 01:43, 19 September 2019 (EDT)
That looks fine. No need to add the PS4 release until someone looks into that version.--From: CounterDiving (talk) 21:58, 20 September 2019 (EDT)
OK. I couldn't find this game on the Playstation Store, but could confirm that it has an Xbone release. I have changed the system parameter of the Bob accordingly. Thanks for your assistance. Nox13last (talk) 18:14, 21 September 2019 (EDT)

Minecraft Beta 1.9 Deletion

Since you are a frequent editor and a mod around this place, I was wondering if you could delete this page. I've written a much more comprehensive list of Beta 1.9 here, due to the update being merged with 1.0.0 and not some "lost update". If you can't or simply don't want to, I understand. Along with that, another copy of the same thing is on the prototype page as well. --kaidigem (talk) 14:15, 10 October 2019 (EDT)

I deleted that extraneous copy. That said, I also moved the Beta 1.9 pages all over here, since these are technically builds made before Minecraft's proper release. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 21:25, 10 October 2019 (EDT)
Ah, that makes sense, yeah. Thanks! --kaidigem (talk) 07:31, 11 October 2019 (EDT)

Two Ninja Assault Banks in A52??

I noticed when looking through Action 52’s ROM, that there are two banks (or whatever term is accurate) that have Ninja Assault in it. One of them (at 0x7AFE3) has the game over text string “THE END” and the other (at 0x72FB7) has “GAME OVER”, which every other game has. Both are in their own separate banks, and the “THE END” one was actually used in the game. I suspect that there’s an early version of Ninja Assault in this game, like there is with French Baker (differentiated by the “THE” being used in the title). What do you think? Could it be possible to copy over the data from the “unused” bank into the used bank? --Sultanofswag89 (talk) 18:48, 19 October 2019 (EST)

It might be possible if the code offsets are similar. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 18:57, 19 October 2019 (EDT)
Huh. Who should I ask to figure out how to overwrite the “the end” bank with the “game over” bank? Or would you happen to know? Because a guy named Cheetahmen92 described where to overwrite French Baker with an alternate version of this game called “The French Baker”, and I’m not sure from where to where I should cut and paste the ”alternate” Ninja Assault.—Sultanofswag89 (talk) 21:49, 25 October 2019 (EST)
If you have an emulator with a code logger, that should help you find the proper offset. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 21:56, 25 October 2019 (EDT)

Permission to add fangame

Hi I have been seeing the rules and I realized that fangames were allowed with an administrator's permissions (I made a page with a fangame, but I had overlooked that, sorry) and wanted to see if you could accept a fangame which has unused content? (specifically I Wanna Kill The Guy) and the thing about the broken rule sorry won't happen again. --Nabil83 (talk) 17:13, 30 December 2019 (EST)

Risky Woods Page Naming Scheme

Okay. So. Here's the problems, as I see them, with what you just did to the Risky Woods (PC) page…

  1. I renamed the Amiga page based on the page for Doom which, as you can see, is simply "PC."
(If you aren't aware, "PC" means "personal computer" – which the Amiga, DOS-based systems, and the Atari ST all are.)
  2. The prototype page title is now very misleading. That prototype is exclusively on the Amiga. I'm not even sure prototypes for DOS or the Atari ST even exist.
  3. Let's be honest. "Game (PC)" looks a lot cleaner than "Game (DOS, Linux, Amiga, Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, BBC Micro, etc.)," wouldn't you say?

The alternative-alternative to this, of course, is to make pages for each individual version of the game, as per say… Bubble Bobble or Double Dragon. But, as the games are almost virtually identical – unlike the Sega 16-bit version, I thought it was best to just lump all the information together and show off the various differences (and similarities).

And, yes. I did check the Creating Articles help page for reference. It's entirely possible that my cited example of Doom might be breaking the stated rules, as it simply says to "only include platforms in the bob that pertain to the article contents." So, it's entirely possible that the Doom page should be renamed to "Doom (DOS, Windows, Linux, Mac OS Classic)," even if it looks ugly as sin.

~ Jo Li (Info|Chat|Edits) 01:31, 6 January 2020 (EST)

I did this mainly because the PC space is mostly for games spread across more than 3 computer platforms. Doom fits the bill since the game is open source, thus allowing for a multitude of platforms to be supported both officially and unofficially, and many (near) identical versions can be played across both consoles and computers. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 21:25, 6 January 2020 (EST)
Hm. I guess that makes sense. Thank you for taking the time to explain.

The DIG hex editor messages in EXE

On the page for LucasArts' The DIG there's a "Developer Text" section which says "Hidden inside the game's main executable, DIG.EXE, at 0x72939: 'Aric disabled Monkey saves for some DIG thang!'"

I actually opened The DIG's DIG.EXE in a text editor (HxD) and the characters extend only to hex offset 71260 or so, while this text string quoted above is absent. --ATMachine (talk) 21:18, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

That string came from the DOS version of the game, specifically from the "Lucas Arts Archives Vol. III" CD. It's at 0x4C848 in the Windows version. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 21:39, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
What text editor & settings do you use? For me with HxD the 0x4C848 offset of DIG.EXE (on the original 1.0 game release) is gibberish. - ATMachine (talk) 23:22, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
OK, I found that text string in the DIG95.EXE from the later combined DOS/Windows release. For some reason it's absent though in the original version 1.0 DIG.EXE that shipped with the initial DOS-only release of the game. ATMachine (talk) 00:46, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

About screenshots

Hello! Thanks for letting me know about the wrong screenshots resolutions. (I actually thought that applied to title-screens only, for some reason)

The screenshots at native resolution look a bit tiny and, as a result, quite pixelated. I was wondering if using PCSX2's FXAA would be fine to smooth the image a little bit, or not. --SimonBestia (talk) 21:36, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

I don't think FXAA will work with native resolution. We're not particularly bothered with pixelation if it's how the game displayed on the PS2 originally. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 01:43, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

On unlockable sound tests in obscure games

Hi, I wanted to ask what the policy was on sound tests here? Do used but obscure ones count? (and if not I'm unsure if this one belongs here). I found a sound test in Koguru Guruguru: Guruguru to Nakayoshi after using cheat codes to complete everything and used BGB to fill the SRAM and unlock an island for it on the map, but it might be used. (I think the code to load the graphics for it is in bank 14 and in theory you can change the cursor on the map to the musical note island to do it with cheats. 01xx76DB also lets you play music automatically) Thanks. Thanks for the help

I'm sorry for making such a mess out of Farm Frenzy's TCRF page, I just found a bit of unused content and thought that it would be cool to make a page. I probably should've asked for help first before trying to dive in. To keep this brief, thank you for helping reformat it and correcting a bit of info. I'm not quite sure that Alawar was the publisher, since it seems strange to include Alawar specifically on both the US disk I own and ingame splash screens right after the developer, but I trust you on this. --Bloxis (talk) 05:38, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

The Russian Wikipedia articles notes Alawar as the publisher. They only (co-)developed Farm Frenzy 3 and 4. Farm Frenzy 2 and Pizza Party! were also made solely by Melesta. Keep in mind that Alawar could still have the responsibility of giving the license to MumboJumbo. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 13:15, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

Found seizure warning screens on Japanese Capcom Games

Hello. I'm writing to inform that i have noticed that Japanese versions of Capcom games (from 2000 or 2006?) start with a warning screen advising players to be wary of seizures, an example of this can be shown here (https://youtu.be/XZBvX19fiIQ?t=20). if this is not a hoarded difference, then we take this decision that each warning screen is different as shown here (https://youtu.be/i4El-7Skmgw?t=18). ScotttheAnimator1979 therefore cannot overturn this.

Yours sincerely,

ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 16 December 2020 (UTC)

Not terribly uncommon in video games. If the wording is similar or the same, I'm not sure if it's worth noting it in individual pages. It depends on how many games would have similar screens. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 02:03, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

How to combine two title screens into one

So you know how some games that have 2 or more versions like Pokémon and Mega Man Battle Network/Rockman.EXE (I don't mean regional or revisional, but colors, etc.). Pokered-title.png FireRed-title.png Here are some examples on what I'm talking about.

How do you combine those title screens into one image, because I may want to upload title screens of games that have 2 versions. --TCRFJNPoop (talk) 14:20, 06 February 2021 (BST).

It's really easy - Just take two image captures as PNGs, then use an image editor to place them side-by-side. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 15:17, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
One more thing, I'm I aloud to use Microsoft Paint to do this or do I have to use a different program, because the rules say don't use Microsoft Paint, unless that's just for colors, shading, etc. TCRFJNPoop (talk) 15:32, 06 February 2021 (BST).
You can use Paint.NET, Gimp, Photoshop, whatever. For pixel precise alignment, Paint isn't a bad program, but you'd the have to copy-paste that into another program first before saving it to avoid changing the color profile as Paint often does. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 15:39, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

Hey, need help

Hey, I just discovered that PNG is not allowed, so any PNG is not allowed to be added from me, it is not in the supported file types anymore. Contact me on Kiwi IRC or the discord at #IRC and I will show the new image to you, It does look better to me, but I need to see if you are able to do it, also, it the error that says "File extension ".png" does not match the detected MIME type of the file (image/jpeg)." But, it originally was a .png, it always has, and its telling me it was not. GauntAthlete910

I strongly recommend you check the file's header yourself. In fact, I've made a tool that does just that. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 01:48, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

From GauntAthlete910

Hey, I was trying to figure out the user who said something that confused me and got me banned from the discord on September 15th, and upon asking for a mod to scroll up so I can see if the message still exists, and they banned me just for trying to ask, can you go to where I said I saw what they were talking about and scroll up and see if it is there? I was trying to ask because the mods kept annoying me asking why I still use the IRC, and not the discord, and I been trying to say I wanted to show exactly what I am talking about, they do not care, and I wanted to finally show what I was talking about, please ask, and also, I guess I cannot ask anymore if I am correctly adding to pages, so idk what to do when I am incorrect and need to ask why, I honestly am not happy that just because i wanted to see if the message that caused me to get banned still exists, they banned me from any form of chat, honestly, that is bull, because that is my only way to ask if I am doing stuff correct, I will sit here pissed, maybe I will even leave the community because I had it with them not letting me fucking prove that someone else told me what I said. please answer if you got something to say, otherwise, I might just not be in a mood because of that issue, that is also fucking bull because My birthday was the 9th, and that is what they do 2 days later. GauntAthlete910 (who is Pissed after what the mods did for just asking, and they did want to ask why, so that should not be on me) March 11th, 2021 1ː17 PM (EST)

The real reason you were banned is because you constantly confused people on Discord, not just the confusion about ripping discs. That was only an example given by an admin, and not the full reason. I get that you want to help contribute to the wiki, but understand that it goes beyond the September 15 message, which still exists on the Discord. You also seem to be lacking somewhat in cohesion, with your writing being lackluster. For example, run-on sentences, lack of capitalization, and a lack of formatting. In general, referring to other pages can help get a grasp on these. Modify it needed, but don't constantly badger users (i.e. nagging at people every day) about every single edit or discovery you make. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 01:51, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for adding what type title screen

Thank you so much for adding the "this title screen is a whatever system" on most of my new uploaded Japanese Pokémon title screens, I was so busy editing other Pokémon pages to add those screenshots, and I've been using Paint.NET to combine title screens into one too. --TCRFJNPoop (talk) 00:21, 12 April 2021 (BST)

Questions: Are prerelease images not allowed on talk pages? and prerelease differences in PaRappa the Rapper

Prerelease images are allowed on talk pages. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 01:27, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Alright! now to document the prerelease footage found on the guide video contained in the Japanese PaRappa the Rapper Demo. and i turns out Prerelease images on talk pages are not an issue. thank you. --ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 23:38, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

UPDATE: issue was solved. here are the prerelease differences of the game.

Prerelease Final
Parappatherapperearlycutscene.png
Parappatherapperearlycutscene2.png
Parappatherappercutscene.png
Parappatherappercutscene2.png

There appeared to be early renders of the game's cutscenes, spliced in with clips of the final render, but Katy and Sunny Funny look different.

The 4th difference is actually the cut for PaRappa's animation, PaRappa's animation cuts off early here (Plus he's still huge).

Parappatherappercutanimation.png

NOTE: This image is after PaRappa's animation cuts off early.

Maybe there are more differences here. if you look around the prerelease differences enough. this promotional video can be found in a Japanese demo disc for the game. To see the prerelease footage, click here.

Thanks to me. --ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 23:50, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

A small translation-related question

Hey there!
I'd like to ask you if you can mark The Simpsons: Hit and Run's page for translation? It's been almost 4 years since it was marked, and quite a lot of stuff was added onto it. Besides, my earlier translation was made when I had less knowledge of the language, and that's a thing I want to fix too.
Thanks in advance!
(Besides the main page's translation, I've tried to add the extension into the Hit & Run's subpages, but in the editor preview the tags appeared broken, didn't wanna risk it, so, I guess the subpages would need to be marked too? Hi, I was curious as to if there's a reason that https://tcrf.net/Category:FeaturedBlurbs hasn't been marked as translatable so we can have blurbs that match the language of the main page... Is there issues with having the language apply to the Category/Template or something else? -- Luna (talk) 22:55, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

Sorry to bump this immediately but I'm also curious about https://tcrf.net/Template:DidYouKnow getting marked for translation, I'd like to... translate them, lol -- Luna (talk) 22:59, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
A lack of demand, it being rather tricky to get the blurbs all translated, and a lack of motivation. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 01:48, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
I can understand the lack of demand but I'm more then up for translating the blurbs into Polish at the very least, and I wouldn't be surprised if our resident Italians on here do some italian translating as well. Up to you though! Got a lot of stuff I wanna translate as well anyway so, not like I'll be out of things to do any time soon. -- Luna (talk) 02:24, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

Template was rolled back (mistakenly?)

Hey, just wanted to let you know when you marked https://tcrf.net/Template:Download/pl down for translation and moved the polish translation to the proper page in format, you got rid of the changes I had made to the template itself. I went back and fixed it, I presume it was just something you had missed. -- Luna (talk) 07:23, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

When I marked it for translation, FuzzyBot completely undid your translation (as it always does when someone tries making a translation without the main English page being marked first). I tried to restore it, but I see I missed one thing. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 14:12, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, no big deal, it was an easy fix anyway. :) -- Luna (talk) 22:56, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

Tales of Berseria censorship

Oh hey, i forgot there's one of the details of the game tales of berseria. It was only one regional difference. and that is where a character is killed.

In the Japanese version, the scene where Laphicet gets killed shows Laphicet getting stabbed by a sword and has more violence than in the international versions.

According to several news articles, Bandai Namco has revealed that the international versions only has one scene censored. and there was an impossibility that the game will get an PEGI 18 rating than the current PEGI 16 rating. possibility to avoid this, Bandai Namco has taken the decision to change only one scene so that the violence appears to be less graphic.

In the international versions, it shows Laphicet getting killed by a magic spell.

Here's a comparison video what was changed here.

When the Japanese scene is compared to the international scene, then it pronounces one regional difference.

Well could ya please gave me a reply --ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 13:56, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

You can add this one to the Windows article, so long as you can verify the censorship extends to that version. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 01:27, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
And oh yeah, there was one more scene that was slightly different. this censorship applies to the opening cutscene, In the Japanese version, a still from the opening cutscene shows Laphicet being stabbed. and for international versions, you've guessed it! a magic spell! Once i have verified that this censorship extends to the Windows version, then it will be true. thanks!--ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 16:50, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

Mark Pages for Translation

Hey, can you mark the following pages for translation? They have a duplicated language bar and I can't fix it manually since there's no direct editing of translated pages and I can't re-mark them either (and I plan to do the sonic 3 page in polish soon and there's been quite a few changes since it was last marked)

Done --From: CounterDiving (talk) 02:30, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
Can you also please mark https://tcrf.net/index.php?title=Template:Prerelease for translation so it won't be broken on a page anymore? And https://tcrf.net/Bugs:Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2_(Genesis) as well. and I guess uhhhhh https://pastebin.com/cxH1bWv7 if you don't mind. No rush on any of this. -- Luna (talk) 03:48, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

Anti-piracy measures in Rhythm Heaven

So at last, Me and Felt Fahrenheit found these anti-piracy measures in Rhythm Heaven! that's interesting.

As with other DS games, the Korean version of the game features a copy protection routine, if the game detects you're playing on a flashcart or an outdated emulator, the following anti-piracy measures will trigger the following:

Rhythm World - Anti-Piracy Measure.png

  • The top and mid-bottom doors are removed after taking you back from Built to Scale, effectively trapping you into an endless loop.
  • The game's save data is erased.

The international and Japanese versions does not, the Korean versions do!

I have performed this anti-piracy measure on No$GBA and that is real! Yes! Not a fake, absolutely real! Here's a video showing this measure, right here!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dEFXccPi2s

Could you please give me a reply? --ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 12:07, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

Worth adding to the Rhythm Heaven page. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 15:07, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

regarding handling the nintendo data breaches in TCRF

i'm not exactly sure on how to organize the various Nintendo data breaches? as i've written in the TCRF discord, some games aren't in the gigaleak but they are in other data breaches, so having a category just named "gigaleak" would be rather messy. how should this be organized? have a category named just "games involved in nintendo data breaches" or similar? or my proposal of the page? given the rather... scattered nature of how this wiki addresses the data leaks as "the july nintendo leaks" with nothing to navigate towards, i feel there's room for improvement in organization. i'm taking some notes on how Hidden Palace addresses these such as the Climax lot and the SEGA ROM Archives, since i feel these are way more better in terms of organizing the sources of leaks of materials.

--YourElbowGreaseSir (talk) 22:33, 19 June 2021 (UTC)

I would not recommend doing it without admin permissions, but we do have plans to at least create a namespace to deal with leaked data. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 22:43, 19 June 2021 (UTC)

Triggering anti-piracy in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles DS games

Hello, CounterDiving.

I have a question about DS emulation, Specifically, about the copy protection in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles DS games. To make a long story short, the copy protection in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles DS games is implemented by the developers to thwart pirates playing it's games.

The way the measures function depends how many DS games would have. especially if playing on a flashcart or emulator, it would then detect the hacking attempt to triggering the anti-piracy. How would you suggest emulators that trigger the games' anti-piracy? --ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 01:10, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

Basically, you'd need to make a code that forces the anti-piracy. More likely (but not recommended), emulator versions made before the game's release. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 01:37, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
Well, unfortuanently, I am not a hacker nor reverse-engineer of the game, but can try to trigger the game's anti-piracy but tried in NO$GBA in attempts, nothing else. --ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 01:40, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
It probably wouldn't work in the latest version of NO$GBA. You'll have to try an older version of that or Desmume. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 02:06, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
How can i get an older version of DeSmuME that triggers the anti-piracy?--ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 12:14, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

Well, sorry, i just tried an attempt to trigger the anti-piracy, no clue. however, i found a way to thus download an very old version of No$GBA from April 2007 via the Wayback Machine, i can see if this version of NO$GBA triggers the anti-piracy. --ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 18:24, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
Whoops, sorry, no clue, Again! this is not the case of triggering anti-piracy in the game.--ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 19:20, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

At least i have played the game for at least 20 minutes straight, effectively, the protection is based on the ARM9 DMA3's source address. Is there another way to trigger the game's anti-piracy? --ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 16:21, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
Effectively, i have played the game for at least 20 minutes at DeSmuME 0.9, no clue. --ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 23:56, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Rayman 2's Copy Protection and anti-piracy specifics

Well, we're in another research, CounterDiving.

Another anti-piracy mechanics in a PC game, especially Rayman 2, so i have decided to turn this video into a documentation, for the Cutting Room Floor. Ubisoft developed and implemented a range of different protections to prevent piracy of the game.

As with many PC games, A range of different protections are present in the PC version, Basically if the game detects that the copy protection has been tampered with, during gameplay, the game will display a pirate head with a message. and thus breaks every level, as follows.

So this appears to be specific. Please give me a reply. --ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 14:00, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

That's some interesting piracy technique. Definitely should note those side effects too, as a lesser cracker could just remove the CD message. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 01:48, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
Right? Another one that i remembered was the PSP version of a pretty weird visual novel (Amatsumi Sora ni! Kumo no Hatate ni) in which if upon switching the disc using M33 driver, the game will do an improper shutdown to the PSP system, although the PSP system still works including the XMB menu, but when playing the game on PPSSPP, it'll bypass the data installation and will freeze at the prompt where to switch to the second disc. yet another one was Maeilmaeil Deoukdeo!: DS Dunoe Training (Korean variation of Brain Age 2) in which i do not know the anti-piracy measures through. i'll notify you when found.--ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 19:53, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

About some subpages I have translated

Hi, I was working on translating some subpages to Spanish for the Yume Nikki article. As you can see, I have already translated the main page, and I have also translated both subpages but I was having trouble actually implementing them into the translated article themselves since the original subpages won't have the options to show the translate tab, and as I have never done this, I don't know all of what is happening. I actually made this page but I realized it's a separate article, which is of course not what I wanted. I coded the {subage} to include the translated names and I put the <(languages)/> <(translate)> <(!--T:1-->) stuff on the original pages so I don't know what's wrong. Could you help me? Breakthru page move

Is there a particular reason why the Breakthru page specifically was moved? And what does the move mean? Does it mean it's not a public page, or what? Also, there are lots of other pages with just title screen regional differences or with single line hidden credits or copyrights which are as empty and have not been moved. Can you explain a bit more why the one I did was taken out of the rotation when others have not? ReyVGM (talk) 22:58, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

Because not even descriptions were included. The move just means that it needs content added before it can be moved back. People can still see the page and you can let them edit as needed. As for why that was taken out of rotation, it jumped out to me as one of the worst. That said, I could easily move several other near-empty pages to userpages too. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 01:39, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

LovePlus+ Anti-Piracy

So, i ended up creating a page for LovePlus+ on my user page because, according to the TWiLightMenu++ AP Patches List, there are more than a hundred Nintendo DS games that have AP protection, as well as the video demonstrating the AP. It can be found as my sandbox here. This is not in any Category or clean up, this is a test page. --ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 12:35, 14 October 2021 (UTC)

Anti-Modchip and LibCrypt in MediEvil and it's sequel

Anyway shape of form, another anti-piracy documentation for MediEvil and its sequel. i can see that MediEvil and MediEvil 2 was on the list of modchip-protected games.

The European version of MediEvil is armed LibCrypt protection. LibCrypt functions on the software level in two ways: by detecting a modchip upon bootup of the game and by detecting an illegal copy through a 16-bit key located in the subchannel data of the disc. The first check is to see whether or not a modchip is installed on the system. As earlier modchips are active by default, all that is necessary to detect one is for the program to return data from a modchip. The second part functions as a part of the game. It decrypts the 16-bit LibCrypt data key stored in the subchannel of the disc and stores it in the coprocessor of the system.

In this case, If any of the LibCrypt checks fail, then upon loading The Hilltop Mausoleum, it ends with a disc error icon on a black screen and then freezes. Interesting to note this was actually the first game to use LibCrypt.

The US version of MediEvil 2 is armed with Anti-Modchip, the anti-modchip protection works if the console detects that there is a modchip (see the Dino Crisis and Robbit Mon Dieu pages for details on them). In this case, the European version uses the same as MediEvil, except upon loading Kensington.

Sources for this oddity are from Kippykip.

Region detection in Super Monkey Ball Step & Roll and Wii Party's Partial English Translation

Another description for Super Monkey Ball: Step and Roll and Wii Party.

For Super Monkey Ball: Step and Roll. Up upon startup, the game checks the presence of the console's region (especially when launching the Japanese version on a North American Wii console with the language set to Japanese), If the region and language itself (epecially US and English language) is detected, then the game will go into it's respective language (English on EN Wii consoles).

For Wii Party, present in the Japanese version is, a partially complete English-localization present in the game's data. It can be activated by launching the Japanese version in English. Here's what the Main Menu looks like with the English translation present in the Japanese version:

Wii Party-Mainmenu-PartialEN.png

Source for the Partial English translation of Wii Party is several sources, especially Dolphin Emulator website

In this case, Reply to me.

Anti-piracy in PSP games

Yet another AP technique in PSP games.

For the PSP version of Evangelion: Jo, upon starting the game, the game runs a check on the system's "flash0" to ensure that the firmware is genuine. if this check fails, The game will immediately go into the title screen and displays the following message:

EvangelionJoAnti-Piracy.png

The "Download Plus" update (which is needed for DLC) for THE iDOLM@STER SP also runs a check on the system's "flash0" to ensure that the firmware is genuine when accessing Office Mode or DLC. if this check fails, It will show this error message and then freezes:

THEiDOLM@STERSP-AntiPiracyScreen.png

Additionally, it is not possible to continue to the actual game from the above screens. This message translates to "Couldn't detect the system software. This game/software may run on system software that is not supported.". This also occurs when on PPSSPP emulator.

Also, one thing, The source for the AP screen on THE iDOLM@STER SP was on this GitHub user "internetakias" when commented on December 2015

So this appears to be specific. Please give me a reply. --ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 21:27, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

Should Scratch have a page

While it isn't a game, it is a program that is used to make games. It has some sounds that were later removed in 2.0 rendering them unused in later versions of Scratch. Nidoking (talk) 06:16, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

My 2 cents, Roblox has a page, and I'd consider it somewhat similar in function to Scratch. I don't know if GM, UE and Unity not having pages is due to a ruling against them or just lack of interest/poor documentation and access to earlier releases of the software. -- Luna (talk) 08:02, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

Nintendo 3DS's Anti-Piracy Measures

Yet another interesting thing to talk about. Well, guess what. Nintendo 3DS updates starting from 11.8 or newer, actually brings the Nintendo Switch's KILLER anti-piracy protection and that, can detect pirated games and issue bans. The way it works, here's the process.

First of all, the console connects to the server "ctest.cdn.nintendo.net", and checks the response for a special header -- "X-Organization: Nintendo". If that header is present, your console concludes it has access to the internet. Otherwise, it decides it doesn't. second, more interesting stuff here's how device authorization works:

The console connects to the dauth "/challenge" endpoint, sending up a "key_generation" argument informing the server what master key revision your console is using.

Dauth sends back as a json a random "challenge" string, and a constant "data" string.

The console treats the "data" string, decoded as base-64, as a cryptographic key source, and uses the SPL services to transform it with TrustZone only keydata and load it into an AES keyslot.

The console generates its authorization request data -- this is done by formatting the string "challenge=%s&client_id=%016x&key_generation=%d&system_version=%s" with the challenge string, the client ID requesting a token, the master key version, and the current system version digest.

The console calculates an AES-128 CMAC using the trustzone-only key it derived over its authorization request, appends "&mac=%s" to the request data (formatting with the url-safe base 64 encoded CMAC), and fires the request off to the "/device_auth_token" endpoint.

If all goes well, dauth returns a token for your console. (If the console is banned, as one of mine is, you will instead receive an error message informing you that the console isn't allowed to use online services).

Fourth, the console performs pretty bog-standard oauth authorization talking to "api.accounts.nintendo.com" -- this is the same process performed on a PC, and so I won't go into it in detail here.

The only meaningful upshot to this component is that it allows Nintendo to block specific accounts, and because all requests require a client certificate, any blocked account can be immediately associated to a console.

Fifth, This is the really interesting component -- and it's where Nintendo's strongest security measure lies.

Like dauth, Nintendo has a special server for this -- "aauth-lp1.ndas.srv.nintendo.net" (Application Authorization). Going online in a game requires getting a token from the "/application_auth_token" endpoint. Here's how that works, at a high level:

The console gets a device authorization token from dauth for the aauth client ID.

The console retrieves its certification to play the title it's trying to connect online with, and sends that to aauth.

If all goes well, aauth returns an application authorization token.

Now, that's not too complicated. But what's really interesting is the bit where your console retrieves its certification to play the title it's trying to connect online with.

Well, and then finally for gamecards and digital games, here's one more explanation:

The certification for a digital title is your console's ticket. For more technical details on what's inside a ticket, see my previous post on the eShop/CDN (linked up above). The important details are that tickets contain the Title ID of the game they certify, the Device ID of the console they authorize, the Nintendo Account ID used to purchase them, and are signed by Nintendo using RSA-2048 (cannot be forged).

In this case, the console talks to the "es" service, and sends a command to retrieve an encrypted copy of the relevant ticket along with the encryption key. This encryption is AES-128 CBC, using a key randomly generated via cryptographically-secure random number generation. The key itself is encrypted using RSA-OAEP 2048. To skip over some technical details, this is a one-way encryption which only Nintendo can reverse, so even if you obtained the output of the es command you would not be able to determine the encryption key being used (and thus couldn't decrypt the ticket).

The data uploaded to aauth in this case is "application_id=%016llx&application_version=%08x&device_auth_token=%.*s&media_type=DIGITAL&cert=%.*s&cert_key=%.*s", formatted with the title ID for the game being played, the version of the game being played, the token retrieved from dauth, the encrypted ticket encoded with url-safe base64, and the encrypted key encoded with url-safe base64.

This code lives at .text+0x7DE98 for 5.0.0 account.

with the additional case where if the console fails to find a certificate, a special "NO_CERT" request is sent and that, get's the console banned. In both relevant cases, aauth validates the certification, and returns a token only if the certification is valid.

And that's it, that's all information that i could find. Thanks to SciresM for all information that i could find.

So this appears to be specific. Please give me a reply. --ScotttheAnimator1979 (talk) 01:49, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

To clarify something, while 11.8.0 does seems to backport the same switch anti-piracy online banning idea it does not/cannot work in the same way due to the differing ARM architecture versions between the 3DS and Switch. Like, above you mention TrustZone... Which isn't a thing on the 3DS' ARM chips, but is on the Switch one. More reverse engineering work would have to be done to 100% verify the specifics for the 3DS' version of these checks. -- Luna (talk) 03:51, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

Proto:Yume Nikki Translation

Hello, I was hoping to translate Proto:Yume Nikki into Spanish and I accidentally created an extra page because I forgot how the process works. Would you need to mark the page itself for translation in order for me to actually be able to do anything? Thanks! GreenToxic (talk) 22:07, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

Uploading a file for the DNF 2001 proto

Alien Carnage Title Screen.png‎
