Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a remake of the very first Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games in 3D using the Unity engine.

While very faithful to the original, certain things from the original were removed and downgraded in a way. (such as the evolution items, camps being downgraded to menus, and certain cutscenes having parts that are not present here) Possibly due to time constraints, despite this it's considered to be a great remake of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon franchise.

Hmmm...
To do:
A handful of things to cover. You can use a program called DreamNexus or Yuzu to extract the game files for this game, and check the files out with AssetStudio, and with Unity since the game runs on the Unity engine.
  • These cutscenes are not normally viewable in-game; find a way to get these cutscenes viewable in-game:
    • cut_test_kojima00.ab
    • cut_test_kojima01.ab
    • cut_test_sawada00.ab
    • cut_00test.ab
    • cut_generic_haitatsu.ab
  • Lots of Unused Moves, many of them leftover from previous games.
  • ̽Add a bugs page, as this game does have some bugs in it.
  • There is a lot of debug text in the text strings for a Debug Menu that can be viewed in DreamNexus, try and see if it is possible to get the Debug Menu to work.
  • Check for any leftover graphics inside effect.ab
  • This forum showcases a lot of unused stuff, document them.

Mentions Of Unused Pokemon

Some of these text strings, are even mentioning Pokémon that do not show up in this game. Likely leftover from the previous games.

Unused And Unplayable Pokémon

Found in the game's code are various unused/unplayable Pokémon.

There is a Pokémon labeled (NONE) and is numbered #0000. Which is used for a placeholder for other mons.

These two mention the word Outlaw. Unknown purpose. Also present in Gates to Infinity and Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon.

  • 1003: Outlaw Level
  • 1004: Outlaw Bottom Up HP

However, many of them are actually duplicate Pokémon.

  • 0998: Rayquaza (Mega-Evolution form duplicate which is labeled as YOBI_50)

The boss variant of Rayquaza while used, cannot be recruited normally in-game.

  • 0999: Rayquaza

And there's these that are labeled (YOBI_Number), which fills the slots for 0982-0997.

Pokémon numbers 0496-0948 (Except for a certain few) are leftover Pokémon from Gates to Infinity and Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, in which many of their models are no longer intact.

Unused Cutscenes

Hmmm...
To do:
Get these cutscenes working in-game.

cut_test_kojima00.ab

A cutscene used during development. Credited to Yusuke Kojima, one of the programmers of the game.

cut_test_kojima01.ab

Another cutscene used during development. Credited to Yusuke Kojima, one of the programmers of the game.

cut_test_sawada00.ab

A cutscene used during development. Credited to Masaaki Sawada, one of the programmers of the game.

cut_00test.ab

A test cutscene.

cut_generic_haitatsu.ab

A generic cutscene.

This placeholder flag design can be found in the flag_image.ab directory. It's pixel art with a red background with some notable JPEG Artifacts.

Notes: What could this be saying?

Found in t01_all_n.ab is a placeholder texture for Pokémon Square. It is a Blue Square with some Red Japanese text.

PMDDX-t01 all n-Base.png

Generation 4 - 6 Pokemon

Due to the game using leftover code from Super Mystery Dungeon, the game has partial coding for all Generation 4 - 6 Pokémon. The only way to get these Pokémon working in-game is through mods.

PMDDX DreamNexus.png

Unseen Parts Of Models

Baby Kangaskhan

Like in many Pokémon games, the baby in Kangaskhan's pouch is fully modeled. Unlike X/Y, it is only rigged for one of its arms.

PMDDXKangaskhan.png

Entirety of Pokémon Square (t01_all.ab)

The entirety of Pokémon Square that was used in a cutscene, the Rescue Team base has very low-poly models as they were never meant to be seen by the player.

PMDDX PokemonSquare.png

Oddities

Squirtle's Relief Sigh Portrait

Squirtle's relief sigh portrait, has its background color changed to red. The other starter Pokémon's relief sigh portrait however retain the yellow background, in which makes it inconsistent to the others.

PMDDX Squirtle Relief Sigh Portrait.png

Gengar's Mouth Texture

Hmmm...
To do:
There is a mod out there where Gengar's mouth textures was modified to give them unique emotions, test it in-game if Gengar can properly emote the angry expression.

When Gengar is in the cutscenes, he will still smile throughout the cutscenes despite the portrait displaying a whole different expression entirely. The reason why is that if you look at the mouth textures, Gengar's grin is actually duplicated for the slot for where the sad mouth texture is supposed to display Gengar's frown mouth texture.

PMDDX_Gengar_Mouth_Texture.png

Unused Files

A binary file named shiren_arts_data_info.bin is present in the game’s files. The name suggests a relation to Shiren the Wanderer, another Mystery Dungeon series developed by Spike Chunsoft. This file is also present in Super Mystery Dungeon, but with a few bytes more than the RTDX file.

revisionDataLocal.xml

A file in the game called revisionDataLocal.xml has various things that are from early in-development.

Earlier Build Date

Found in Streamingassets/data/revisionDataLocal.xml is an earlier build date dated 2019-12-06 15:00:47, likely from an earlier prototype build of the game.

Found in Streamingassets/data/revisionDataLocal.xml is the build number.

Also found in revisionDataLocal.xml is a developer message in Japanese. The developers used the program Bugzilla to document a bug fixed in the final release.

Japanese Translation Notes
Bugzilla 5718: [Underground] In the "Map: Unknown" dungeon, when the request target is sent to an unexplored room and auto-movement is performed while the request target is sent to an unexplored room, even if the stairs have already been discovered, the request target will go to the unexplored room → added a response when the request target is sent to the unexplored room. The message explains a bug in which a client for a Rescue Mission will be sent to an unreachable area in the dungeon.
