Mario Power Tennis is the sequel to Mario Tennis, with new Power Shots, characters, courts, and more. It was later re-released on the Wii with motion controls.

It's also notable for being the only Mario game to have a blooper reel.

Unused Models

Hammer Bro

Mariopowertennis hammerbro.png

xcmdl_linesman_hbros_line_sbn is a Hammer Bro, and judging by the filename it was meant to be a linesman in a court.

Spiny

Mariopowertennis spiny.png

xcmdl_classic_togezo_poly_sbn is a low-poly Spiny. Judging from the filename, it was meant to appear in the Mario Bros. stage.

Shellcreeper

Mariopowertennis shellcreeper.png

xcmdl_classic_kame_sbn is a model of a Shellcreeper. The ones that appear in-game use their original 2D sprites from Mario Bros.

Fighter Fly

Honey Nut Cheerios!

xcmdl_classic_kame_sbn is a model of a Fighter Fly. Same situation as above.

Unused Music

menu_old.sng (GameCube) or menu.brstm (Wii) is what seems to be an early version of the Exhibition menu music.

Wii-Exclusive Content

Unused Graphics

Present in the root folder of the Wii version, banner.arc contains banners leftover from the Wii SDK, as well as part of the Japanese logo for We Love Golf!, which Camelot previously developed.

Unused Online SDK

Code present in main.dol contains multiple references to the ETH (LAN) and IP (Online) GameCube SDKs. One piece of networking code remains intact for the retail game - a function that takes a given network command and attempts to execute it. First, it initializes the network, checking if the Broadband Adapter is connected and retrieving an IP address. Afterwards it frees up the command handle and sets the current network command if it is valid (i.e. DISCONNECT).

Mario Power Tennis was originally planned to include online and local networking before the feature was cancelled due to potential lag.

Oddities

MarioPowerTennis-GC ToadToadetteTennis.png

In the introduction sequence when Wario and Waluigi look at the big scoreboard, you can see Toad and Toadette on the first part to the left on the scoreboard. Toad and Toadette are unplayable in the game, so it's possible that they were intended to be playable at one point.
